            <p class="para_item">If you haven't already done so, <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('mfgturning/turn_tool_ext.html#turning_turn_tool_ext');return(false);">select a drilling tool</a>.
            </p>
         </li>

            <p class="para_item">If you want NX to internally calculate the drilling tool path, select <b class="uiTerm">Simulated</b>. To use your NC machine's canned machine cycle, ensure that this option is not checked.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Select one of the following drilling cycles from the <b class="uiTerm">Cycle</b> menu:
            </p>

               <li class="condense">Drill, Deep</li>
               <li class="condense">Drill, Break Chip</li>
               <li class="condense">Tap</li>
               <li class="condense">Tap, Float</li>
               <li class="condense">Bore</li>

         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Select the <b class="uiTerm">Settings</b> icon <img align="bottom" src="graphics/icon_settings.gif" border="0">. The <b class="uiTerm">Cycle Parameters</b> dialog opens where you can set the parameters pertaining to the cycle you chose. 
            </p>
            <p class="para_item">The following are the parameters common to all cycles:</p>

                  </td>

                     <p class="para_td">Establishes a safety zone around the workpiece for non-cutting tool motions.</p>
                     <p class="para_td">After the drilling operation, the tool returns to the clearance distance before going to the return and/or gohome points (defined using the avoidance geometry option of the machining parameters menu).</p>
                  </td>

                     <p class="para_td"><b class="uiTerm">Engage Distance</b></p>
                  </td>

                     <p class="para_td">For simulated cycles, this defines an engage motion along the tool axis before cutting starts. The engage feed rate must be set (an engage feed rate of zero suppresses the engage motion). </p>

                     <p class="para_td"><b class="uiTerm">Retract Distance</b></p>
                  </td>
                  <td bgcolor="#F7F7F7" colspan="1" rowspan="1">
                     <p class="para_td">For canned cycles, this defines the value in the RTRCTO statement. The distance is measured along the tool axis from the drill start position.</p>
                     <p class="para_td">If <b class="uiTerm">Retract Distance</b> is zero, the tool retracts to the <b class="uiTerm">RAPTO</b> position, which is where the feed rate changes from the rapid to the cut value. The <b class="uiTerm">RAPTO</b> offset is equal to the <b class="uiTerm">Clearance Distance</b> value.

                     <p class="para_td"><b class="uiTerm">Spindle Stop</b></p>

                     <p class="para_td">For simulated cycles except the tapping cycles, stops the spindle before the tool is retracted out of the workpiece.</p>

                     <p class="para_td"><b class="uiTerm">Dwell</b></p>
                  </td>

                     <p class="para_td">Specifies a delay in tool motion at the end of a machining pass to relieve tool pressure. You must first specify the units (seconds or revolutions) and then the number of units. The system outputs a DWELL/ command at various times depending on the chip removal method currently in effect. If you have not set a chip removal, the system outputs a DWELL/ command when it reaches the total depth.</p>

                     <p class="para_td">Specifies how to clear or break chips as you drill. Used for <b class="uiTerm">Drill Deep</b> and <b class="uiTerm">Drill Break Chip</b>, simulated cycles.

            <p class="para_item">Enter the appropriate cycle parameters and confirm with <b class="uiTerm">OK</b>.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Select a start position. </p>
            <ul>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">If you want the system to do this automatically by selecting a start position that is dependent on the current IPW, select <b class="uiTerm">Automatic Start Position</b>.
                  </p>
               </li>
               <li>
                  <p class="para_item">If you want to select the start position manually, choose <b class="uiTerm">Select</b> and click on the desired start position in the graphics window.
                  </p>
               </li>
            </ul>
            <p class="para_item">Drilling begins at the distance from the start point that you specified in the clearance parameter. </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Define an end point using the  <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('mfgturning/turn_cd_total_depth.html');return(false);">Total Depth</a> option.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">If necessary, change the orientation of the tool using the <b class="uiTerm">Reverse Direction</b> option. In Centerline Drilling, the tool always points along the negative centerline axis of the MCS. If you want to change the orientation of the tool, activate the <b class="uiTerm">Reverse Direction</b> option. This could be needed, for example, if you are machining on a counter-spindle (depending, however, on your MCS orientation).
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">If you have manually selected the start point and want to reduce cutting in mid-air at that start point, specify an entrance diameter. You can specify the diameter of an existing countersink or hole. The system adjusts the contact point of the drill with the material using the defined entrance diameter and the drill point angle.</p>

            <p class="para_item">If you have selected a tool which allows you to drill off-center, you can specify the distance from centerline. </p>
