      <p class="para_topic">When the system determines that a contact point will cause a surface gouge, the Avoid Method setting determines what action the system takes.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">The Avoid Method setting has no effect if gouge check is OFF. This option toggles between three settings: ISSUE A WARNING, MAKE DIRECT MOVE, and RETRACT.</p>

               <p class="para_td">The system avoids a contact point that will cause a surface gouge by finding the nearest non-gouging tool end position along the tool axis. This non-gouging position is output to the tool path and CLSF between comments as shown below.</p>

               <p class="para_th">MAKE DIRECT MOVE</p>

               <p class="para_td">The system avoids a contact point that will cause a surface gouge by finding the nearest non-gouging contact point and moving in a straight line to the next non-gouging contact point. These non-gouging contact points are used to calculate the tool end points which are output to the CLSF. Gouge points are ignored and NOT output to the CLSF.</p>

            <td colspan="1" rowspan="1" valign="top">
               <p class="para_td">The system avoids a contact point that will cause a surface gouge by finding the nearest non-gouging contact point and retracting (the input retract distance) from it and engaging (the input engage distance) to the next non-gouging con tact point.</p>
               <p class="para_td">These non-gouging contact points are used to calculate the tool end points which are output to the tool path and CLSF. The system uses the Engage and Retract moves and distances.</p>
