Boundary allows you to select existing permanent boundaries. This mode continues to display the Boundary Geometry Dialog Box.

When you select a permanent boundary, the system creates a copy in the form of a temporary boundary. This copy can then be edited just like any other temporary boundary. The temporary boundary is associative to the curves and edges from which the permanent boundary was created, and not to the permanent boundary itself. This means that if the permanent boundary is be deleted, the temporary boundary will remain.

Face

Face allows you to create boundaries from a single planar face of a sheet or solid body. This mode continues to display the Boundary Geometry dialog box.

Ignore Holes (off), Ignore Islands (on)

Boundaries are associated with the solid face and the holes (or islands) in that face. If you modify the solid face, the corresponding boundaries are updated. However, if you replace the boundary, the associativity between the boundaries and the solid face is removed. Even so, members of all boundaries created from this solid face will still be associated with the edges of the solid.

For example, assume you use a solid face with two islands to define the boundaries in a Planar Milling operation. After you select the face and the islands, you append a temporary boundary as a third island. This would remove the associativity between the solid face and the boundaries. Next, add another island to the face in the Modeling application. Since the associativity is gone, this new island has no effect. Associativity is still maintained between the original boundaries and the edges of the faces, so if you change the face the boundaries will automatically update.
