      <p class="para_topic">Cut Regions are used to detect the amount of material still to be cut. They represent the maximum area the tool can actually reach for cutting after considering all parameters for the operation (tool insert shape and orientation, stock and offset values, containment, and the level/step and cut angle). The in-process workpiece mechanism internally tracks the cut region and updates it after each cut.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">The example below illustrates how the system autodetects remaining material and updates the shape of the in-process workpiece for three successive operations. Note that for each operation, only a portion of the material can be removed with the chosen tool.</p>

      <div class="title_division">Where Do I Find It?</div>
      <p class="para_division">There are two ways to display the cut region:</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Open the operation dialog.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">In the Cut Regions section of the dialog, click Display.</p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <p class="para_division">or</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Open the operation dialog.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">In the Cut Regions section of the dialog, click Containment.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Click Display Cut Regions.</p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <div class="title_division">Cut Region vs. In-Process Workpiece</div>
      <p class="para_division">It is important to understand the difference between cut region and in-process workpiece. In the following situation, there is a groove which still needs to be cut. If you select Show 2D Workpiece  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/ico_t_show_2d_workpiece.gif" border="0"> or Show 3D Workpiece  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/ico_t_show_3d_workpiece.gif" border="0">, the system shows you the in-process workpiece. You can see the material in the groove that still needs to be cut  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/num_1.gif" border="0">.

      <p class="para_division">You can now examine the cut region for the required grooving operation. In this case, the tool is slightly smaller than the groove. We have set containment to machine only the groove.</p>

      <p class="para_division">The cut region displayed  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/num_2.gif" border="0"> indicates what the system internally detects for the currently active tool and other operation settings. It is calculated using the tool radius centerpoint  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/num_3.gif" border="0">. For this reason, particularly for grooving tools, there is often a noticeable difference between the remaining material as shown by using Show 3D Workpiece and Cut Region Display. If you generate this grooving operation and use the Show 3D option on the operation, the resulting in-process workpiece will now look like this:

            <p class="para_item"> <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('mfgturning/06topic_32.html');return(false);">Autodetection Control</a> - manipulates autodetected cut regions.
            </p>
         </li>
      </ul>
