For Planar Mill operations, the system generally uses the order in which the boundaries were created when selecting curves for boundaries or the order in which the faces were created when selecting faces for boundaries. This is not always the case, however, since regions can be split up or joined by the processor and the order information lost. As a result, the order in which cut regions are machined can be arbitrary and inefficient using this option. When machining multiple cut levels using Level First as the Cut Order, the processor repeats the same order for each level.

The processor determines the order that requires less crossing back and forth between regions and a shorter overall distance when traversing from one region to another. When machining multiple cut levels using Level First as the Cut Order, the regions in the first cut level are machined in the order determined by the optimization function. The regions in the second level are then machined in the reverse order to reduce traversal time between regions. This alternation continues until all cut levels have been machined.
