      </table><br><p class="para_topic">The grooving tool characteristics are specified via the following attributes, some of which are for display purposes only.</p>

            <p class="para_item">Insert Shape (as used by majority of tool vendors)</p>
            <p class="para_item">The available insert shapes are:</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Standard</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Full Nose Radius</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Ring Type Joint</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">User Defined</p>
            <p class="para_item">These types and their corresponding attributes are described in the subsequent section.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Orientation Angle</p>
            <p class="para_item">The orientation angle is measured counter clockwise from positive rotation axis. An outside diameter grooving tool would have an orientation angle of 90 degree; ID grooving usually requires an orientation angle of 270 degrees.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Insert Direction</p>
            <p class="para_item">Defining whether cutting above centerline requires clockwise or counter clockwise spindle rotation.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Insert Length</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Thickness</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Maximum Depth of Cut</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Maximum Tool Reach (for boring)</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Minimum Boring Diameter</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Minimum Facing Diameter</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Maximum Facing Diameter</p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <p class="para_topic">The parameters describing the insert shape depend on the insert type being selected. The subsequent sections will describe each available insert type and its parameters. Some of the parameters have the attribute left or right. The notation here is that the left angle is the angle being on the left side of the tool at an orientation angle of 90 degrees seen from top.</p>

               <p class="para_th">Insert Width (IW)</p>

               <p class="para_td">The insert width describes the width of a groove that would result from a straight cut (radial cut for OD groove tool) into material. This parameter appears with the Standard, Ring Type Joint and User Defined Tools.</p>

               <p class="para_th">Radius (R)</p>

               <p class="para_td">This is the radius of the circle at the corner of the cutter. The Standard tool Radius assumes the tool's left and right nose radii are equal. You may define a left and right Radius in User Defined tool types.</p>

               <p class="para_th">Side Angle (SA)</p>

               <p class="para_td">The side angle defines the clearance angles of the tool on the left and on the right side as equal. An insert shape as shown in the  <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('mfgturning/turn_tool_groove.html');return(false);">Standard sketch </a>represents a positive value of the side angle. This parameter appears only in the Standard and Full Nose Radius tool types.

               <p class="para_td">These angles define the clearance angles of the tool with the possibility to insert unequal values if the tool that you are defining is asymmetrical</p>

               <p class="para_td">This parameter represents the angle at the bottom of the cutter to the rotation axis. The TA shown in the  <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('mfgturning/turn_tool_groove.html');return(false);">sketch</a> represents a positive value of the tip angle. This parameter appears only in the dialogs for Standard and User Defined tools.

                           <p class="para_warning_body">The operation's level angle (or the level angle +/- 180) cannot equal the tool's orient angle. If these are equal, the system cannot determine which side to move into the material in linear roughing. You can try making your tool orient angle incrementally larger or smaller (eg. 359.9999) or try using a plunge zig cutting strategy with an appropriate step angle and cleanup inactive.</p>
