      <p class="para_topic">Zig creates a series of linear parallel passes that cut in one direction. Zig maintains a consistent Climb or Conventional cut and performs no contour cutting between consecutive passes unless required to do so by the specified Engage method. The tool engages at the start point of the cutting pass and cuts to the end point of the pass. The tool then retracts, traverses to the start of the next pass, and begins cutting in the same direction.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">The Zig pattern is intended to always engage from open air unless doing so would cause the tool to move across a large portion of the cut region that was previously machined. In that case, the pattern re-engages at the start of the previous zig pass to minimize the amount of tool travel along the cut portion of the region.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">The following figure illustrates the basic sequence of Zig tool movements for a Conventional cut.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">Like Zig-Zag, Zig generates passes that follow cut region contours provided the passes do not intersect. In cases where Zig passes cannot follow cut region without intersecting passes, the system generates a sequence of shorter passes and traverses between subregions as illustrated below.</p>

                  <p class="para_note_body">Wall Cleanup should be turned on when using the Follow Periphery, Zig, and Zig-Zag cut patterns. This assures that excess material will not be left along the wall of the part, which could leave too much material for the tool at the next cut level.</p>
