Use Tool Holder is a cut parameter common to Face Milling, Zlevel Milling, Surface Contouring (depending on the drive method), and Cavity Milling. In Surface Contouring, Use Tool Holder is available in Area Milling and Flowcut.

The holder is defined in the tool definition dialog as a stack of cylinders or tapered cylinders. The Area Milling and Flow Cut drive methods for Zlevel Profile, Cavity Milling, and Fixed Axis Surface Contouring operations can use this definition of the tool holder to ensure a tool path without holder collisions. These options must be toggled ON for the operation to recognize the tool holder.

The tool holder parameters are set by choosing the holder page on the milling tool dialog. If the holder tab is not visible on the tool dialog, you can add the holder parameters using customized dialogs. For more information on defining the tool holder, see general → Parent Groups → Tool Groups → Milling Tools → Tool Holder

In Surface Contouring and Zlevel, if a collision between the tool holder and the workpiece is detected, the area where the collision occurred will be saved with the operation as 2D Workpiece geometry. It can be displayed by highlighting the operation in the Operation Manager and holding down mouse button MB3 and selecting Workpiece - Show 2D. This can even be done while another operation is active. This geometry can be used in subsequent operations as trim geometry to contain the cut motions to the area necessary to remove the material left by the tool holder / workpiece collision.

In Cavity milling, if a collision between the tool holder and the workpiece is detected, the area where the collision occurred is not cut. Any following cavity milling operations must use the Level based IPW option to remove these uncut areas.
