      <p class="para_topic">Using the Characteristics dialog you can assign specific attributes to a datum feature. These attributes are saved in the ugdatum.dpx file. You can modify attribute title, type and values. There are two broad categories of Characteristic types: Ordinary (Integer, Real or String) and List. List Characteristics are always of the string type and possess default values defined in the ugdatum.dpx file. You need to choose the Type for Ordinary Characteristics.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Accessing</div>
      <p class="para_division">To access the Characteristics dialog, click the Characteristics button on any datum feature dialog when in the Insert or Edit modes. The Characteristics dialog appears.</p>

You can modify the Title, Type and Value for all characteristics except List Characteristics. For List Characteristics, you can modify only the values.</p>

               <p class="para_td">Lists the following Types in case of Ordinary Characteristics: Integer, Real or String. You can select a Type.</p>
               <p class="para_td">In case of List Characteristic, this item label is replaced by the characteristic Title entered above, and the default values are displayed in the option list. You can select a value for the List Characteristic from this option list, or choose the User Defined option. If you choose the User Defined option, the Value field appears sensitive. You need to enter a value in the Value field.</p>

               <p class="para_td">This button is grayed out until you choose a characteristic from the Applied Characteristics list. You can modify the Title/Type/Value of the selected characteristic depending upon the type, and then click Edit to edit it.</p>

               <p class="para_td">This option is grayed out until you choose a characteristic from the Applied Characteristics list. Choose Remove to remove the selected characteristic(s) from the Datum object/feature.</p>

      </table><br><div class="title_division">Add</div>
      <p class="para_division">To add a new characteristic select any of the available characteristics from the Available Characteristics listing window. The initial values are displayed in the Title, Type and Value boxes; and option list. You can modify the Title and Type (except for List Characteristics) and Value (this is grayed out in case of List Characteristics). To add this newly modified characteristic, choose Add. The characteristic appears in the Applied Characteristics listing window.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Edit</div>
      <p class="para_division">To edit a particular characteristic select it on the Applied Characteristics listing window. The values pop up in the Title/Type/Value fields and option list. You can modify these specifications and then choose Edit to edit them. The edited characteristics are reset in the Applied Characteristics listing window.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Remove</div>
      <p class="para_division">To remove a particular characteristic, select it on Applied Characteristics listing window. The values pop up in the Title/Type/Value fields and option list. Choose Remove to remove the characteristic. The selected characteristic is removed from the Applied Characteristics listing window.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Inherit</div>
      <p class="para_division">Choose Inherit to apply characteristics of other Datum objects on the selected feature. The Inherit Characteristics dialog appears. Select the object to be inherited and choose OK. All the inherited characteristics appear in the Applied Characteristics listing window.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Reset</div>
      <p class="para_division">Choose Reset to restore the initial values in the dialog. </p>
