      <p class="para_division">Checks that the external trim curves are open. At this point scrap shed is not checked on flanges.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Purpose</div>
      <p class="para_division">To determine if the external trim curve will cause scrap to become trapped in the manufacturing process.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Computational Method</div>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The external three-dimensional trimming curve shape is projected onto the plane normal to the trimming direction (trimming view).</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">All interior &quot;gulfs&quot; are determined in this trimming view.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">A straight line is constructed between end points of a &quot;gulf&quot;, and the open angle is measured with respect to this line. This measurement is shown in the following diagram. If this angle is less than Standard Minimum value(?) on either side of the &quot;gulf&quot;, it is a Trapped Scrap condition. If the open angle or either side of the &quot;gulf&quot; lies between Standard value(?) and Standard Minimum value(?) it is a Parallel Scrap condition or else it is a Standard Scrap condition.</p>

      <p class="para_division">The following diagram shows a cases where the scrap shed open angle on the left and right of each gulf are greater than the minimum. Both &quot;gulfs&quot; pass the scrap shed test.</p>
