Use the Sectional Formability Advisor to analyze potential forming problems, such as wrinkling, tearing, or thinning. You should already have some knowledge of problem areas on the part using other analysis tools, such as DFM Advisor, before using this tool.

The Sectional Formability Advisor analyzes one 2D section through the product part at a time, and offers advice on how to revise the shape of the section to improve formability in that area of the product. Once you have improved the section, you can apply this information to adjust the product part to reflect the revised shape.

Input is a DIE_LINEUP feature that has material properties defined. You cut a temporary 2D section curve in an area of the DIE_LINEUP product sheet body where you think a problem exists, by defining a neutral point on the section. You can then define initial analysis parameters.

The section is converted to a series of arc and line segments that approximate the section curve. Each segment is analyzed for formability, and results are displayed in the dialog (results can also be listed in the Information window). Problem segments are highlighted in the graphics window.

You can dynamically modify any segment of a section in the graphics window by selecting one of its handles and dragging. The handle lets you adjust the endpoints of segments, the length of lines and the radii of arcs. Moving a specific handle causes adjacent segments to be revised automatically, and the analysis is invoked continuously to determine the formability of the revised section. Handles always move in the plane of the section curve. In this way, you can edit the section curve until you get the desired analysis results. Once you are satisfied with the shape of the section, you can create a permanent curve that approximates that shape.

This function does not modify the DIE_LINEUP sheet body itself. The curves and analysis listings are the only output produced.
