The flanging task describes how the flanges are formed to product shape during a particular operation. An important step in this process is defining the location of the flanges. This is done by first selecting the part (Tipped Product), curves that separate the flange from the product part (Region Bounds), and a point that indicates the inside of the flange (Point in Region).

If you select the Finish Operation check box, it indicates that the flange is in its final position. The shape of the metal produced matches the shape of the product part. If this is not a finish operation, then you must supply the shape that represents this intermediate stage of the sheet metal. This is done using the Shape Detail selection step.

If you select the Pierce and Extrude check box, the flange is manufactured by piercing the metal and forming the flange in one operation.

Compensation for springback of flanges can also be defined. The compensation consists of a rotation of the flange around the bend line (the string specified in the Region Bounds selection step). The bend line must be a C2 continuous curve (or string of curves). You can specify an angle of rotation either as a constant or using the Law option. A negative angle rotates the flange opposite to the displayed direction.

The output of Flange Task is a DIE_FLANGE_TASK feature consisting of curves representing the flanging boundary region. If the flange task is a Finish Operation, then a sheet body is also created which illustrates the shape of the sheet metal after the flange has been completely formed. In some cases the output of Die Flange Task may include a DIE_OUTPUT feature. This occurs whenever the output sheet must be sewn to other sheets.
