The forming task describes how metal is formed to product shape during a particular operation. An important step in this process is defining the region of the part to be formed. This is done by first selecting the part ( Tipped Product), the boundary of the region ( Region Bounds), and a point that indicates the inside of the region ( Point in Region). In most cases flanges are not "formed" in the Form Task; rather, flanging is usually performed by the Flange Task. If this is the case, then the Region Bounds you select should be curves that separate the flanges from the product part.

The Finish Operation toggle indicates whether this is the last forming operation to be performed on the metal. If so, the system knows that the shape of the metal to be produced matches the shape of your product part. On the other hand, if this is not a finish operation, then you must supply the shape that represents this intermediate stage of the sheet metal. This is done using the Shape Detail selection step.

The output of Die Form Task is a DIE_FORM_TASK feature consisting of curves representing the forming boundary region. If the form task is a Finish Operation, then a sheet body is also created, which illustrates the shape of the sheet metal after the forming task is complete. In some cases the output of Die Form Task may include a DIE_OUTPUT feature. This occurs whenever the output sheet must be sewn to other sheets. An example is completing the Area Fill function to fill void areas.
