You can enter expression data by selecting from a range of values, or by choosing from a list of values.

You can select geometry data from the NX Graphics Window.

During dialog instantiation, a search for matching named objects and expressions is performed. Each expression with user entry is resolved if an exact name match is found in the display assembly parts expressions. Each object is resolved if an exact named object is found matching the module Resolve Reference string or the object's name. For example, if the Resolve Reference string prompt was LB_DRAW_UPR and a NX object was named LB_DRAW_UPR, then a match would occur. (Note that the strings in the Resolve Reference in the dialog example would not match any object names because of the spaces used in the prompt.)

Since some NX customers use "control" parts, maintaining source geometry and/or expression data that controls the rest of the design through links from the "control" part, a search algorithm has been established. The search order can be defined as follows. Primary emphasis is given if the "Part Name Search String" customer default is defined. The Part Name Search String is a string that will be matched to the part name. If any portion of the part name matches, then the objects contained in this file are used for matching. For example, if Part Name Search String = "control-data" and the display assembly has a part named "ug-draw-control-data.prt" in it, then a match would occur and the "ug-draw-control-data.prt" would be used as the primary source for data. Secondary emphasis is given to the work part, and lastly any part in the display assembly.

This search allows you to create a "control file" that has significant controlling information, such as standard expressions and surface data, and you can use this data as the primary selection source for re-parenting.
