Manufacturing Process Aid Wizard (MPAW) is the latest addition to the growing suite of process-specific wizards that address the growing needs of the user community. This wizard automates the creation, coordination and maintenance of manufacturing process aids, including datum, measurement and certification points. These features are used throughout the automotive industry to control and monitor critical areas of a vehicle's body that must be maintained during the build process in order to obtain dimensional integrity as defined by the vehicle's overall dimensional plan.

MPAW uses rules-based technology, including knowledge fusion, to capture customer specific design rules and apply them to help locate and coordinate process aid features. These process aids are actual NX features that contain unique definition, attributes and display. This wizard also provides functions to check distance between features, find and query feature information, and report on adherence to or deviation from the user specified coordination rules.

The use of this wizard provides many benefits, including ensuring a consistent definition of these process aid features, so that no matter who the designer or supplier is, the definition is consistent. This eliminates errors caused by misinterpretation due to multiple representation methods commonly deployed today. Because this wizard uses rules specified by the customer, individual company standards are certain to be adhered to. In addition, the distance checking routines provide users with critical interference information early in the design process, enabling design changes to be made prior to the building of hard tools. The coordination reporting mechanism helps identify inconsistent design definitions, making it easier to diagnose and avoid assembly build problems. Together these benefits make MPAW a very powerful tool for the automotive body processor along with assembly, checking fixture designers and anyone responsible for specifying measurement points.

This functionality is fully supported by a complete set of Open API functions, making it possible for the manufacturing process aid features to be utilized in other packages, including Teamcenter Engineering, Teamcenter Visualization, and any other third party that wishes to take advantage of these features.
