Trims are manufactured using trim steels to produce large cutouts in the interior of the sheet metal or to trim material along the outside of the sheet metal. By contrast, small openings interior to the sheet metal are generally performed using standard pierce equipment. In that case, you should use the Pierce Task function to define these manufacturing operations.

For a given CAM direction in the operation, you can specify all of the trims based on that direction in a single trim task.

To use this option, you must have created at least one of the following features in the operation: DIE_FORM_TASK, DIE_CARRYOVER, DIE_AREA_FILL, and/or DIE_FLANGE_TASK.

Cutouts are defined by providing the edge curve(s). All other trims are defined by curves that separate the trimmed from the untrimmed regions of the sheet metal.

If performing a cam trim, you can specify the type of equipment by indicating either aerial or base mounted.

The system informs you which side of the sheet metal is to be trimmed and allows you to reverse the side.

You can supply planes to indicate the start and end of the trim and whether there is a match cut at the start and/or end. You may also select planes to indicate the location of scrap cutters.

The output of Die Trim Task is a DIE_TRIM_TASK feature consisting of one or more curves representing the trim boundary. A DIE_OUTPUT feature is also created, which actually performs the trim of the sheet body to represent the part in its trimmed state. You can also specify that you want the trim to take place on the flange in the laid out position. In this case the system automatically calculates this position for you by reading the flange length and extending out in the direction of the tangent of the product face.
