      <div class="title_division">Overview</div>
      <p class="para_division">The Surface Vector function creates a measurement point that lies on the surface of a part. It may be a planar or contoured surface. Typically this point's vector is normal to the surface it lies on. Generally multiple surface vector measurement points are defined per face and used to evaluate the profile of a surface.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Accessing</div>
      <p class="para_division">To access the Surface Vector dialog in the Insert mode, do one of the following:</p>

         <li>
            <p class="para_item">On the MPAW toolbar, choose the Surface Vector icon  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/mpt_surf_icon.gif" border="0">.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">On the menu bar, choose Tools-&rarr;Process Aid-&rarr;Surface Vector.</p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <p class="para_division">The Surface Vector dialog appears.</p>

This dialog lets you select and modify the location of the surface vector. For help on the Point Constructor dialog, see Gateway Help-&rarr;Common Tools-&rarr;Point Constructor.

               <p class="para_td">Use this scale to modify the location of the surface vector. The basis of these two parameters depends on the orientation of the face. U and V parameters represent percentage of surface area in two distinct directions.</p>

               <p class="para_td">Coordinates</p>

               <p class="para_td">Enter the coordinate values for X, Y, Z axis. This lets you specify a single coordinate value that will locate the surface vector. The other two values are adjusted in order to keep the measurement point of the selected face.</p>

               <p class="para_td">Select a vector direction from among the following options:</p>
               <p class="para_td"><img align="bottom" src="graphics/mpt_surf_norm.gif" border="0"> Inserts the surface vector along the face normal.
               </p>
               <p class="para_td"> <img align="bottom" src="graphics/mpt_hem_xc.gif" border="0"> Inserts the vector along the X axis.
               </p>
               <p class="para_td"> <img align="bottom" src="graphics/mpt_hem_yc.gif" border="0"> Inserts the vector along the Y axis.
               </p>
               <p class="para_td"> <img align="bottom" src="graphics/mpt_hem_zc.gif" border="0"> Inserts the vector along the Z axis.
               </p>

               <p class="para_td">Choose the Flip Material Direction button to create the surface vector on the other side of the face of a sheet body. This step is optional and available only for sheet bodies.</p>

               <p class="para_td">Specify material thickness for sheet bodies. This step is optional and available only for sheet bodies.</p>

               <p class="para_td">The Non-Associative toggle appears sensitive only if at least one measurement vector already exists in the part. Turn this toggle ON to create measurement vectors independent of geometry. You can now create a measurement vector by specifying the point coordinates and vector direction.</p>

               <p class="para_td">Click to open the Specify Relationship dialog. This button is sensitive in the Insert mode only when at least one measurement vector already exists in the part, and is always sensitive in the Edit mode. Using the Specify Relationship dialog you can select multiple measurement vectors and specify the relationship type from the option menu. You can choose from three types of relationships:</p>
               <p class="para_td"><img align="bottom" src="graphics/dlf_flush.gif" border="0"> Maintains a flush relationship among vectors. MPAW makes no attempt to verify the flush condition.
               </p>
               <p class="para_td"> <img align="bottom" src="graphics/dlf_gap.gif" border="0"> Maintains a gap relationship among vectors. MPAW makes no attempt to verify the gap condition.
               </p>
               <p class="para_td"> <img align="bottom" src="graphics/dlf_ns.gif" border="0"> Maintains a non-specific relationship.
               </p>
               <p class="para_td">You can break the relationship by choosing  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/dlf_nr.gif" border="0">.
               </p>
            </td>

      </table><br><div class="title_division">Inserting</div>
      <p class="para_division">To insert a surface vector:</p>
      <p class="para_division">When the Surface Vector dialog appears, all the buttons on the dialog appear grayed out, except Cancel. You are cued to select a face.</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Select a face in your graphics window. By default, a dummy surface vector is displayed at the center of the face along the normal of the face. You are cued to choose options on the Surface Vector dialog, or choose OK or Apply to create the surface vector.</p>
            <p class="para_item">Alternatively, you can choose the Point Constructor icon  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/mpt_surf_ptcons.gif" border="0"> on the Surface Vector dialog. The Point Constructor dialog appears. You will notice that the Point on Surface icon on the Point Constructor dialog appears depressed. Selecting the location using the Point on Surface option (recommended) also selects the face in the same step. This sensitizes the U- and V- Parameter fields in the Point Constructor and Surface Vector dialogs, and you can now modify the location using either dialog.
            </p>
            <p class="para_item">You can select a location using any of the options available on the Point Constructor dialog. This method requires you to return to the Surface Vector dialog and select a face, after which you can modify the location.</p>

                        <p class="para_note_body">You can select or modify geometry using either the Point Constructor dialog or the Surface Vector dialog. Once you are done with the Point Constructor dialog</p>

                  <p class="para_item">Click the Back button to return to the Surface Vector dialog without accepting any inputs.</p>

                  <p class="para_item">Click Cancel to close the Surface Vector dialog as well, without retaining any inputs.</p>
               </li>
            </ul>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">On the Surface Vector dialog, modify the location of the surface vector by using the U- and V-Parameter scales, or enter the coordinates in the X, Y, and Z fields, if required.</p>

                        <p class="para_note_body">The Flip Material Side button and Material Thickness field are sensitive only if the selected face belongs to a sheet body. Otherwise they appear grayed out.</p>

            <p class="para_item">Enter a name for the surface vector. You can enter a maximum of 20 characters.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Select the vector direction from among the icons on the Surface Vector dialog. You can snap the vector direction to a primary axis: X, Y, or Z by choosing any of the Vector Direction icons on the Surface Vector dialog.</p>

                        <p class="para_note_body"> By default, the surface vector is created normal to the face at the point location.</p>

            <p class="para_item">If required, choose  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/mpt_surf_flip.gif" border="0"> to reverse the vector direction. This step is optional.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">If required, choose  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/mpt_surf_fmat.gif" border="0"> to create the surface vector on the other side of the face. This step is optional.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">In case of sheet body, enter the thickness for the material in the Material Thickness field.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Click  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/mpt_surf_ch.gif" border="0"> to assign characteristics to the surface vector. The  <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('mpaw/ref_dat_char.html');return(false);">Datum Characteristics</a> dialog appears. Using the Datum Characteristics dialog, you can group or add attributes to the surface vector.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Choose  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/ok.gif" border="0"> to complete the task and close the dialog.
            </p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <p class="para_division">The surface vector is inserted.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Choosing  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/apply.gif" border="0"> creates the surface vector, clears the dialog of inputs, and keeps the dialog on the screen. You can now select geometry for the next surface vector. Choosing  <img align="bottom" src="graphics/mpt_trim_canc.gif" border="0"> closes the dialog without accepting any inputs.
      </p>
      <div class="title_division">Editing</div>
      <p class="para_division">To edit the Surface Vector:</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">On the menu bar, choose Edit-&rarr;Feature-&rarr;Parameters. The Edit Parameters dialog appears. Select the surface vector you want to edit.</p>
            <p class="para_item">OR</p>
            <p class="para_item">Click the Model Navigator icon on the standard toolbar. On the Model Navigator dialog, select the surface vector you want to edit.</p>
            <p class="para_item">The Surface Vector dialog appears. The dialog displays the values chosen or entered while creating the surface vector.</p>
