During creation, a closed profile is evaluated and the start point for processing is placed along the longest exterior "flat." This helps to ensure correct internal curve offsets and processing. This point must be used for law offsets to ensure proper correspondence. Because you can specify a "flat," you can use the Closed Start Point to eliminate cases where the internal point selected results in offset degeneracies In the figure, the yellow sheet metal has a red trim profile. A green sphere (circled in red) is at an ideal location for the Closed Start Orientation. The primary placement should be away from corners or sharp bends, small radius corners, etc. The sphere is centered on a long "flat" of the trim line.
