      <p class="para_topic">Now that the database file has been registered, it may be opened for editing from the Standard Part Management dialog box. </p>
      <p class="para_topic">To access the Standard Part Management dialog box, you must have a part loaded in NX.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">In the example used in this article, XESS has been set as the default spreadsheet application and the database file has been edited for use with the fit_252.prt Standard Part.</p>

            <p class="para_item">Select the Standard Parts button from the Mold Wizard toolbar.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Set the Catalog pull-down menu to WATER.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Pick the Dimension tab.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Click the Edit Data Base button.</p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <p class="para_topic">The database file for the Standard Part displayed in the Standard Part Management dialog is opened in the XESS application. </p>
      <p class="para_topic">Standard Part database spreadsheets recognize specific, case-sensitive, formatting rules that must be followed exactly. Among the specific requirements are the following:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The maximum number of columns allowed in a spread sheet is 78.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The top row in a spread sheet may not be empty.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The cell format of a spread sheet should be Text.</p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <div class="title_division">Configuring the Database File</div>
      <p class="para_division">The database spreadsheet uses special formatting to control a variety of parameters and attributes of the Standard Part.</p>
      <p class="para_division">In the fit_252 Standard Part example we must define the following configurations:</p>
      <ul>

         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Positioning method</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Bitmap image file path</p>
         </li>

      <p class="para_division">Any text to the right of a &quot;##&quot; symbol is ignored by the Standard Parts Management System. These are comments that are ignored by the system. This text can be used to explain the spreadsheet for future reference.</p>
      <div class="title_division">COMMENT (Standard Part Dialog Comment)</div>
      <p class="para_division">Text placed in the cell to the right of the COMMENT cell is displayed in the Standard Part Management dialog below the bitmap image. This text is displayed on a single line and may be used to give cues (directions) to the user.</p>
      <div class="title_division">PARENT (Default Assembly Parent)</div>
      <p class="para_division">The Parent pull-down menu in the Standard Parts Management system allows the user to choose the parent of the Standard Part. The Standard Part will be placed as a component of the Parent.</p>
      <p class="para_division">The cell to the right of the PARENT cell is used to define the default assembly parent.</p>

      <div class="title_division">PARENT Identification</div>
      <p class="para_division">Mold Wizard uses part attributes to identify components. You place the part attribute contained in the desired default parent component in the cell to the right of the PARENT cell.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Mold Wizard searches the MoldAssembly for a component containing the part attribute specified in the PARENT cell and places the component as a child of that Parent component.</p>
      <p class="para_division">NOTE: If the desired Parent does not contain a unique part attribute, the user may set the desired Parent as the work-part before placing the Standard Part. This provides the current work-part as an optional Parent in the Parent pull-down menu.</p>
      <div class="title_division">PARENT Cell Formatting</div>
      <p class="para_division">The&nbsp;first character is a less-than (&lt;) symbol, followed by the part attribute&nbsp;contained in the desired parent, followed by a greater-than symbol (&gt;).</p>
      <p class="para_division">&lt;attribute name contained in the parent&gt;</p>
      <p class="para_division">For example, mold base top assembly files contain the part attribute UM_MOLDBASE. To make the mold base the default target, the PARENT cell should be defined as follows:</p>
      <p class="para_division">PARENT</p>

      <div class="title_division">Additional Default Parents</div>
      <p class="para_division">Additional default parent options may be placed in <b class="uiTerm">Mold Wizard Customer Defaults</b>. The setting and format are as follows:
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">MW_StandardParent: &lt;USER_ATT1&gt;, &lt;USER_ATT2&gt;,...</p>
      <p class="para_division">The Standard Part Management System finds the component containing the attributes listed in MW_StandardParent and lists them as options in the parent list. The purpose of this function is to allow users to add custom nodes to the Mold Wizard assembly template to contain some Standard Parts.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Several types of position methods are available to position a Standard Part into the mold.</p>

The point method uses a smart point to attach the component to the installation level. A variable, &nbsp;MW_StandardAssociationPointPosition, &nbsp;is set off in the Mold Wizard default file. If you prefer to have this associative attachment, you can enable it. </p>

               <p class="para_td">The Plane method uses a smart point to attach the component to the selected face. If you prefer not to have this associative attachment, you can disable it in <b class="uiTerm">Mold Wizard Customer Defaults</b>. The variable is MW_StandardAssociationPosition.
               </p>

      </table><br><div class="title_division">ATTRIBUTES&nbsp;(Set Part Attributes)</div>
      <p class="para_division">The ATTRIBUTES section&nbsp;is used to automatically assign part attributes to any component in the mold. In most cases, these attributes are used to&nbsp;set the&nbsp;Bill of Materials (BOM) data.</p>
      <p class="para_division">To set a part attribute in the Standard Part that is controlled by this database spreadsheet, use the following format:</p>
      <p class="para_division">Attribute Name=Attribute Value.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Each attribute command must be placed in a single cell in the first column.</p>
      <p class="para_division">The following example shows the ATTRIBUTE section of a database file for a DME locating ring.</p>
      <p class="para_division">ATTRIBUTES</p>
      <p class="para_division">CATALOG=DME Locate_Ring 6500</p>
      <p class="para_division">LOCATE_RING=1 </p>
      <p class="para_division">The first&nbsp;cell in the ATTRIBUTES section creates a part attribute in the locating ring component named CATALOG, with a value of DME Locate_Ring 6500.&nbsp;The purpose of this part attribute is to provide a value for the CATALOG field of the BOM.</p>
      <p class="para_division">The second cell in the ATTRIBUTES section creates a part attribute in the locating ring named LOCATE_RING with a value of 1. The purpose of this part attribute is to enable the Standard Parts Management system to identify this Standard part as a locating ring regardless of its part-file name.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Attributes may also&nbsp;reference values from the PARAMETERS section. The following table shows an example for a database for an ejector pin that may be any one of six&nbsp;sizes.</p>

      </table><br><p class="para_division">CATALOG uses the values defined in the PARAMETERS section to create a part attribute in the ejector pin component with the correct BOM report.</p>
      <p class="para_division">The format for referencing variables from the PARAMETER section is to place a &lt; before the parameter name and a &gt; after the parameter name.</p>
      <p class="para_division">In this case, a 1/16 ejector pin has a part attribute named CATALOG with the value CT5-M6NS1/16.</p>
      <p class="para_division">An attribute may also be placed in a component of the Standard Part or any other component of the mold assembly. In the following example, a lifter assembly has several components.</p>

      </table><br><p class="para_division">The parameters that define the dimensions of the components are controlled by the PARAMETERS section of the database file. The part attributes that define the BOM report for each of these components are also controlled by the ATTRIBUTES section of this database.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Each of the components contains a part attribute used to identify the component. For example, the lifter body contains a part attribute named BODY. The format for directing a part attribute to a specific component is the same as for&nbsp;basic&nbsp;part attribute assignment. However, the&nbsp;format begins with the&nbsp;name of the part attribute contained in the target part followed by two colons.</p>
      <p class="para_division">In this example, the&nbsp;lifter component containing the part attribute BODY has the values of the parameters wide, body_thick, and body_length&nbsp;applied to the CATALOG part attribute.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Depending on the values, the&nbsp;BOM report for CATALOG on the component containing the part attribute BODY might look something like: .376 X .5 X 6.7.</p>
      <p class="para_division">An attribute may also reference an expression value from the EXPRESSIONS section. This can be used to report the dimensions of a body whose dimensions are not defined by parameters in the database file. This can be accomplished by creating measuring expressions in the component and referencing that expression in the EXPRESSIONS section to make it available to be reported by the ATTRIBUTES section.</p>
      <div class="title_division">INTER_PART (External Database Activation)</div>
      <p class="para_division">Some Standard Parts are assemblies. In some cases, the subcomponents of these assemblies are Standard Parts that are controlled by their own separate database file. The purpose of the INTER_PART section is to update the components with their own separate database file.</p>
      <p class="para_division">For example, a Standard Part assembly might contain some socket head screws that are also Standard Parts.&nbsp;The Standard Part assembly may have configurations that require different diameter and length screws. Rather than expanding the Standard Part database file to include parameters to control the dimensions of&nbsp;each of the different screws in the assembly,&nbsp;the INTER_PART section references an external database spreadsheet to control the parameters of the screws.</p>
      <p class="para_division">The following descriptions show an example of an INTER_PART command that updates the parameters of a subcomponent of the current Standard Part using a separate database spreadsheet.</p>
      <p class="para_division">The format of an INTER_PART command is as follows:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The first column contains the name of the part attribute contained in the Standard Part subcomponent to be updated.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The second column contains the path to the database spreadsheet that contains the data used to update the subcomponent.</p>

            <p class="para_item">The following columns are used to define&nbsp;the relationships between the parameters of the Standard Part and the parameters of the component database spreadsheet and the&nbsp;component it controls.</p>

      </ul>
      <p class="para_division">Two spreadsheets are shown in the following table: the top spreadsheet is cut from the Standard Part database file that controls the entire Standard Part. The second spreadsheet is cut from the database spreadsheet that controls the subcomponent of the Standard Part.</p>

      <div class="title_division">EXPRESSIONS (Create Interpart Expressions)</div>
      <p class="para_division">Standard Part parameters&nbsp;may be linked to parameters in the mold base they are being added to by use of interpart expressions. Interpart expressions are automatically&nbsp;placed in Standard Parts from commands in the EXPRESSIONS section.</p>
      <p class="para_division">The format of an EXPRESSIONS command is as follows:</p>
      <p class="para_division">Standard Part Parameter=Part Attribute of target component::Parameter in target component</p>
      <p class="para_division">The following example creates an interpart expression in a locating ring part. The parameter top_z in the locating ring has an interpart expression linking it to the parameter TCP_off in the component containing the part attribute UM_MOLDBASE.</p>
      <p class="para_division">top_z=UM_MOLDBASE::TCP_off</p>
      <p class="para_division">This interpart expression relationship adjusts a parameter in the locating ring that positions the locating ring body to the top level of the top clamp plate. If parameters in the mold base that alter the level of the top level of the top clamp plate are changed, the locating ring adjusts to match the mold base.</p>
      <div class="title_division">BITMAP</div>
      <p class="para_division">The BITMAP section of the Standard Parts database is used to define the path location and file name of the bitmap file displayed in the Standard Part Management dialog box. </p>
      <div class="title_division">PARAMETERS</div>
      <p class="para_division">The&nbsp;PARAMETER section of the Standard Part Database file is used to organize the parameters in a format that the Standard Parts Management system can interpret, so it can configure the Standard Part Management dialog to provide the desired options and update the Standard Part to the options selected.</p>

      <p class="para_division">The data base formatting method results in a single option for the D1 parameter. Additional control of parameters with the pull-down menus is&nbsp;possible by adding option formatting to the data base. The formatting example below provides length options.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Notice that different length options are available depending on the D1 selection. The CATALOG attribute line has also been updated to include the variable of the pin length. The resulting attribute reported by the BOM function for a pin with D1 option .3, and an L1 option of 5 would be PRACTICE PIN #P35.</p>
