PDW keeps the design association between sheet metal part, process design, structure design, pocket and drawing by leveraging NX's latest technologies, such as Knowledge Fusion, WAVE, and smart objects.

A progressive-die design assembly structure and a brief explanation are shown below. Note that the characters between the brackets <> are part attributes.

PDW maintains the design association; you can go back to change sheet metal parts or upstream design at any stage. Because a typical progressive die assembly may contain from 500 - 1500 components or more, it is not practical to let the system automatically propagate all design changes downstream. PDW lets you control the updates.

The following are several tips for implementing design updates:

Sheet Metal Part change (for example, change a feature dimension, add or delete a feature.)

If you've already created a blank, then click the Update Blank button in the Blank Generator dialog to update your blank.

If you want to adjust your blank layout, use the Blank Layout Design module to edit it.

If you've already designed scraps, to check if there is any distorted scrap, use the Scrap Design module to adjust scrap profile sketch.

If you've already initialized a strip layout, use the Strip Layout module. If there are Feature Pre-process definitions, toggle on the Sheet Metal Part button, and click Apply to update a strip layout. (rarely used now)

If you've already designed insert groups, use the Insert Group Design module to check if there are any insert groups that need to be repositioned or to have their dimensions adjusted.

Process Definition change (rarely used now)

Updating performance depends on the complexity of the sheet metal part, the assembly size, and the changed contents. If a large amount of change has occurred, we suggest you start a new project. PDW can finish new projects very quickly and easier if you already know the design procedure.
