The Standard Parts Management System in Progressive Die Wizard is a library of the most commonly used components and a system to install and adjust them. Standard parts are die components that are installed and configured with the Standard Parts Management System. You can customize your Standard Parts libraries to match your company's design standards and expand the library to include any component or assembly.

Automatic NX CAM Integration

The standard part libraries in Progressive Die Wizard support NX CAM automation. Standard parts have been normalized such that the cylindrical faces in die plates can be machined by an automated NX CAM program. Integration of the PDW standard part libraries with NX CAM improves the efficiency of the design-to-manufacturing process. When a progressive die design is completed, fixed holes for standard parts and insert group parts are automatically placed in the die plates. NC drilling code can then be generated from the finished die.

Installation of most die components requires that special pockets be cut into the die base to mount the component. Standard parts that require mounting-pockets will include a pocket cutting FALSE body that defines the shape of the pocket.

The Create Pockets function subtracts a geometry-linked copy of the FALSE body from the target object to create a mounting pocket.

Components, Component Assemblies, and Component Sets

Die component grouping requirements differ from component to component. The Standard Parts Management System can accommodate the needs of different component grouping cases.

Single Components

Some die components, such as bushings, are installed as single components. These standard parts are usually modeled as a single part file that contains two bodies: the component and the pocket cutting body.

Component Assemblies

Some components, such as guide blocks with screws, are assemblies. These standard parts are usually assemblies of each component.

For instance, a guide block assembly may be a block component and two instances of a screw component. The pocket-cutting body may be in the block component with features for the tapped holes, or in both the block and screw components. Parameters for the components are controlled by expressions in the top component of the standard part assembly through interpart expressions.

Component Sets

Some components, such as screws, are best installed as sets of components. Component sets are usually a parent component containing multiple instances of a sub-component.

The sub-component is usually positioned relative to its parent by mating conditions and will often have many instances where their existence is controlled by suppression-by-expression. Parameters for the components are controlled by expressions in the top component of the standard part assembly through interpart expressions.

Component Array Design

Component Array Design allows you to create, edit, or delete an array of duplicate components. Multiple components can be arranged in a rectangular or circular pattern in one procedure, eliminating the need to create component arrays, one component at a time. Use Component Array Design to leverage a single component to quickly generate an array of identical components.
