The interchangeable mold base model is an assembly of all the components and parametric controls required to make many configurations. The interchangeable mold base is designed to be easily customizable and adaptable and the interchangeable mold base assembly model can be adapted to nearly any mold base catalog. For example, the inch interchangeable mold base assembly model is used for both the DME and HASCO catalogs.

The interchangeable mold base assembly has standard parts sets for the components and uses the Cut Pockets function to install features to the mold base plates.

The expressions to control the mold base and component sets are contained at several assembly levels. Generally, most parameters are controlled directly through the components (or component sets), rather than from a centralized set of parameters in the top-level mold base component. Where necessary, interpart expressions are used between the mold base and components to coordinate the positions of the related components.

The top-level assembly file is named Mold Base.prt. The mold base assembly is divided into two halves, a_side and b_side. The a_side refers to the fixed, stationary, or cavity side of the mold, and b_side refers to the moving, core, or ejector side of the mold.

The two sides contain components such as plates, and component sets such as screws and guide-pins. The number of components in each set is controlled by assembly component suppression by expression. Positioning of the components is controlled by mating conditions between the fixed datums of the component set top file and fixed datums within the components.

The plates are named according to the side of the mold they belong to and their position in the stack. The plate nearest to the parting plane on the a_side is named plate_a_1 and the next plate is named plate_a_2. The b_side uses the same naming system with the plate closest to the parting level named plate_b_1.

Each component that requires a mounting pocket or hole contains a FALSE body that is used by the Cut Pockets function to make mounting pockets in the plates.

File-naming conventions are designed to provide clear order and obvious selection in the assembly tree. The first word in the name describes the type of component it is, such as side, plate, or guide_pin. The second word describes the side of the mold it belongs to and the third word describes the level or number of the component (whichever applies).

Part attribute and expression naming follow the same naming conventions.
