      <p class="para_topic">In I-deas, you are used to separate file types for assemblies, parts, and drawings. You also have a temporary model file as your work space.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">In NX, these three types of information are stored in the same file.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">Because the model file is no longer used as an intermediate data container, you can directly open .prt files by clicking them.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">I-deas used intermediate containers of model files and bins. Data management tracked parts and drawings as well as the model files they were stored in.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">In NX, files containing parts, assemblies, and drawings are directly opened in your <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('roadmap/03topic_5.html');return(false);">session</a>.

      <p class="para_topic">If you run NX in native mode without data management, you will have direct control over data files. If you run NX using Teamcenter Integration to manage files, the software will pass these files directly from the database to your session.</p>
