Drawing Selection allows you to copy entire drawings between parts in an assembly or within a single part file. When the Drawing Selection option is chosen, a Drawings to Export dialog displays allowing you to select the drawings you want to export. When a drawing is copied all view dependent geometry and associated annotation will also be copied where possible.

This functionality can be used to make copies of existing drawings within the same part file, or to copy standard drawing templates (with no associative annotation) into new drawing part files. It can also be used when you want to convert an existing drawing which resides in the same part file as the geometry, to a master model environment where the drawing exists in a separate part file.

In order to convert an assembly drawing to a master model drawing, create a drawing part file that contains the assembly as a component. Once this is accomplished, drawings from the existing assembly can be exported to the new master model drawing with File→Export→Part→Drawing Selection. All view dependent geometry and annotation will be automatically copied.

Some items to be aware of when exporting drawings include the following:

A section view parent view, which exists on a drawing without its associated child view, will lose its section line when the drawing is exported to a new part file. To avoid this condition, section views and their parent views that exist on different drawing sheets in the original part file, should have their drawings exported simultaneously to the new part file.

If a section view detail view exists on a drawing without its parent view, it will not be copied during drawing export. To avoid this condition, section view details and their parent views that exist on different drawing sheets in the original part file, should have their drawings exported simultaneously to the new part file.

The units of the drawing part file must be the same as the units of the destination part file. Exporting drawings across mixed unit part files is not allowed.

If the destination part has different layer, color, font, or width settings, the exported drawing(s) will conform to those settings. This may cause some annotation or view dependent objects to become invisible.

If annotation is associated to geometry that's not a component in the destination part, the annotation will not be exported when the drawing is exported.

If annotation is associated to parts that are currently not loaded, then the annotation will not be exported when the drawing is exported. This only applies when exporting drawing between part files and not within the same part file.
