<p class="para_topic">The fields at the bottom of the Regeneration tab of the Performance Preferences dialog provide a way to progressively regenerate models. The following sections explain your options and other items to be aware of.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Deferred or Immediate Regeneration</div>
      <div class="title_division">Deferred Regeneration</div>
<p class="para_division">You can effectively defer a full detailed regeneration of solids or facet topologies. You have the option to perform full detail regeneration during idle time. In doing the deferral, you can tell the system to render an object as a bounding box representation.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Immediate Rendering of Selected Objects</div>
<p class="para_division">You can also select objects that you want to have rendered in full detail immediately. After selecting an object, NX renders it in full detail upon future regeneration, regardless of progressive regeneration settings. All objects that you specify with this status will maintain it as long as the part is open, until you change it.</p>
      <div class="title_division">General Display Appearance and Selection Behavior</div>
<p class="para_division">When using an alternate representation to display a solid or faceted topology, selection behavior (and by definition display appearance) is potentially affected. </p>
      <div class="title_division">Displaying Solids</div>
<p class="para_division">When you display a solid as something other than full detail, you can't select the edges or faces. To select a solid's face or edge that is displayed in an alternate representation, you must first render the object at full detail. For ways to perform this action, see Idle Time Regeneration, the Always Render at Full Detail set, and modifications to the object specific popup menu.</p>
      <div class="title_division">The Effect on Selecting Components</div>
<p class="para_division">You can still select components as components regardless of the underlying representations. When selecting items to add to the Full Detail set, in general, NX allows only solid bodies, sheet bodies, and faceted topologies into the set. You can also select components. If you select components, NX filters out the individual objects that do not apply to the operation covered by the set, such as a line, when adding objects from the component to the Full Detail set.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Goal</div>
<p class="para_division">The goal is to reduce initial regeneration time, therefore, unless an attribute applies directly to a solid body (not a face attribute) it will not be considered in the alternate representation.</p>
<p class="para_division">In the current NX data model, this rules out showing any partial shaded objects, face analysis objects, translucent objects and for simplicity and speed, materials or textures.</p>
<div class="title_division">How Alternate Representations Affect Other Visual Output</div>
<p class="para_division">For most output, you will want to see the actual representation and not an alternate. Therefore, alternate representation settings will not affect CGM, plotting (non-display), model translators (VRML, IGES, etc.), and High Quality Image shading.</p>
<p class="para_division">Other operations that work directly on the current display representation such as Print and Copy to Clipboard (Windows only), and Image Export (TIFF, GIF, etc.) will use the alternate representation settings.</p>
<p class="para_division">If the output operation is model specific, NX ignores the alternate representation settings; if the operation is NX display specific, NX honors the alternate representation settings.</p>
