The first step is to migrate the data management system used in I-deas from TDM to Teamcenter. This will not change the content of the I-deas models, it is only migrating the metadata from one system to the other.

This will open your options, since Teamcenter can manage data from multiple CAD systems in the same environment. This will also expand your options to adopt new capability in Teamcenter.

The second phase is running NX and I-deas together in a shared data environment, using Teamcenter for both I-deas and NX data. Because I-deas and NX share licenses, you can gradually transition from I-deas to NX. When you begin new models, it would be a logical time to start them in NX. You can create assemblies in NX incorporating parts modeled in NX with others still maintained in I-deas by migrating the boundary representation, without fully migrating the part history.

Content migration

The final step is to fully migrate the history of I-deas models and maintain them in NX instead of I-deas. This can be done by assembly, or one part at a time. When you are assured that your models have migrated successfully, you can continue modeling and editing the models in NX.
