Using Gateway Reset When Recording Macros

There is a procedure you can use when recording macros that assures they will always run, regardless of your location within NX when you launch them. This procedure is known as Gateway Reset. To use Gateway Reset, simply make the first event in the recording of a macro, Application→Gateway. This cancels the current application, and places the macro at a known starting point in the user interface. If you follow this procedure, your macro will playback from any point or location from within NX, and will no longer be context dependent.

Gateway Reset may not be appropriate for every macro in your inventory. It can, however, be useful in providing a means whereby a class of macros always executes successfully, without regard for where or how launched.

Stop Record Limitation

You cannot use the Stop Record option when recording if a modal dialog box, such as a file selection box, is displayed. For example, once a shaded image is displayed on the screen during macro recording, you cannot stop the recording, since the shaded dialog is modal. So in this case, the macro must include erasing the shaded image during recording. Thus, anyone who runs the macro later cannot control when the shaded image is dismissed. A workaround to this limitation is to stop recording a macro before shading an image.

SpaceBall and SpaceMouse Devices

The use of SpaceBall and SpaceMouse devices are supported by macros. If these devices are implemented during a session that is being recorded, they will playback properly. See Record All Transforms (under Preferences→User Interface→ Macro Options) in the Customizing NX Help for information on how to control whether all or only the last setting of the SpaceBall, Dialog Box, and Zoom scroll bar are recorded during Macro recording.
