      <div class="title_division">NX and Spreadsheet Connections</div>
      <p class="para_division">When NX starts a spreadsheet application, control is passed to the spreadsheet. This means that NX will no longer respond to user input; you should see that the system ready indicator, the red &quot;stop light&quot;, is ON in NX.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Control is returned to NX when one of the following actions occurs in the spreadsheet:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The Connections&rarr;Disconnect operation is used.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The Exit operation is chosen from the File menu.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The window Close operation is selected from the window menu control.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The Connections&rarr;Disconnect function is accessed through the &lt;CTRL&gt;&lt;D&gt; keyboard accelerator.</p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <p class="para_division">Any of the operations listed above return control from the spreadsheet back to NX. The Disconnect operations keep the spreadsheet application running on your display, and close the communication link to NX. The Exit and Close operations terminate the spreadsheet application.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Connection Failure Error</div>
      <p class="para_division">If you receive the error, Failed to connect Excel events to Unigraphics, navigate as follows and check to see if UG is selected:  spreadsheet -&rarr; Tools -&rarr; Add-Ins. </p>
      <p class="para_division">Add-Ins should be checked after installing NX.  </p>

      <div class="title_division">Multiple Connections</div>
      <p class="para_division">The environment variable named: &quot;UGII_MULTIPLE_CONNECTIONS&quot; can be entered before starting NX or set in the (.ugii_env), (.kshrc) or (.profile.) files. This enables reconnection to different spreadsheets, if desired. (Setting the variable to any value makes it active.)</p>

                  <p class="para_note_body">  This variable means that NX can now take over a spreadsheet that is being controlled by another application and write NX data into that spreadsheet. The exception is that the options NX added to the variable apply to applications for specific users and may not apply to some applications.</p>

      <div class="title_division">Basic Connection Rules</div>
      <p class="para_division">Choosing Tools&rarr;Spreadsheet starts a new spreadsheet or reconnects an existing spreadsheet that is currently running.</p>
      <p class="para_division">NX starts a new spreadsheet if:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">There are no copies of the spreadsheet currently running.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The spreadsheet is running, but not accepting connections.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The spreadsheet is running, but is already connected to NX.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The spreadsheet is running and connected to another process and the MULTIPLE_CONNECTIONS environment variable is not defined.</p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <p class="para_division">NX reconnects a running copy of the spreadsheet if:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">The running spreadsheet is accepting connections.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">an NX session is not currently connected to the spreadsheet.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">No other process is connected, or the MULTIPLE_CONNECTIONS environment variable is defined to any value.</p>
         </li>
      </ul>
