      <p class="para_topic">Xess includes limited support of certain third-party spreadsheet file formats.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Xess97 (Xess 4) Updates</div>
      <p class="para_division">The following information is taken from the Xess 4 (Xess97) Release Notes.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Importing/Exporting Microsoft Excel Files</div>
      <div class="title_division">Updates to XLS Filter</div>
      <p class="para_division">The XLS filter has been updated in Xess97 to reflect additional common functionality between Excel and Xess97 (e.g., cell borders, orientation and additional formats). This is an extension to the updates added in Xess 3.1.3 to read Excel v3, v5 and v7 files in addition to Excel v4 files that were supported in Xess 3.1.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Xess97 continues to save XLS files in Excel v4 format.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Beginning with Xess 3.1.3 you could open Microsoft Excel (XLS) file versions 3, 4, 5 and 7 directly in Xess. In addition, Xess now contains better accommodation for Excel workbooks. When the XLS file you want to open in Xess is an Excel workbook, Xess displays a dialog box with the names of the individual sheets from which you can select to open in Xess. With Xess97, you have the option of loading all of the sheets in the workbook.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Prior to Xess 3.1.3, only Excel v4 files were supported, and you had to save a workbook sheet separately in Excel before opening it in Xess.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Xess 3.1 Updates</div>
      <p class="para_division">The following information is taken from the Xess 3.1 Release Notes.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Microsoft Excel Files</div>
      <p class="para_division">&quot;In addition to WKS and WK1 file formats, you may load and save Excel spreadsheets directly as if they were native Xess sheets. The XLS filter converts data values, expressions, functions, cell formats and global sheet settings defined in Microsoft Excel 4 files that are supported in Xess. Functions that exist in both Excel and Xess are automatically adjusted to reflect a different name or order of arguments. Excel 4 files can be created by later versions of Excel.&quot;</p>

      <div class="title_division">Loading Microsoft Excel and Lotus Files</div>
      <p class="para_division">To open an Excel or Lotus spreadsheet file in the Xess spreadsheet, do the following:</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Start the Xess spreadsheet from NX (Tools&rarr;Spreadsheet).</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Disconnect the spreadsheet from NX (Connections&rarr;Disconnect).</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Open the Excel or Lotus files using the spreadsheet option, File&rarr;Open.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Reconnect the spreadsheet to NX using Tools&rarr;Spreadsheet. When the dialog displays asking if you want to reload the spreadsheet, select Continue so you continue with existing data in the spreadsheet.</p>
         </li>

      <div class="title_division">HTML Files</div>
      <p class="para_division">&quot;Xess 3.1 gives you the ability to create tables in the format of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). These tables can be accessed directly by web browsers and other similar tools, or merged into other HTML documents. Xess will create an HTML document that includes a table element comprised of the cell from the selected range. (Refer to the Spreadsheet function, File&rarr;Export&rarr;File Format.)&quot; </p>
      <div class="title_division">Help </div>
      <p class="para_division">To access help:</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Copy the Xessu6 file from the %UGII_BASE_DIR%\ugii\Xessu6 to the \exceed\user directory.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Edit the \exceed\user\Xessu6 file.  Search for helpFile and change the line to point to the xessu4-help.html file that is in the NXdirectory, e.g.,</p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <p class="para_division">*helpFile:  c:\\\\ugs180\\\\ugii\\\\xessu4-help.html</p>
      <p class="para_division">Note that you must specify 4 back slashes.</p>
