      <p class="para_topic">NX .prt files containing parts can be directly opened in I-deas. Associativity is maintained so that if a new version of the file is generated, you will be able to update your imported part, maintaining any downstream work you added since the first import.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">To open an NX part model in I-deas:</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Choose  <em>File &rarr; Unigraphics Open</em>.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Select the type of file:  <em>Unigraphics Part</em>.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Use the folder button to select the (*.prt) file to open. </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Select the layer(s) or reference sets containing the NX geometry to transfer into I-deas.</p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <p class="para_topic">The form shows a list of layer numbers and reference set names along with the number of solid parts and sheets contained in each. Typically one layer will contain the model geometry of the NX part that you want to import into I-deas, although you can select more than one layer.</p>

                  <p class="para_tip_body">Remember that NX part files are not the same as I-deas library part files. Keep them in a separate folder so that you don't confuse the two file types that share the same (.prt) extension. Don't store them in the Team Shared folder where I-deas library parts are stored. </p>

      <p class="para_topic">The imported part will be immediately placed on the workbench and named. The part name will be generated from the .prt file name with the prefix &quot;UG_&quot; such as &quot;UG_filename.&quot; The part number will be given the same name as the .prt file.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">The history tree of the imported part will show one node that represents the NX feature. The name of this node will contain the name of the file to help you remember the name of the file. The name of the node on the history tree will be UG_filename.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">You can name this part and add features to it the same as you would any I-deas part. The resulting history tree might look like the one on the right, showing changes added after the NX feature (node 2 in the history tree).</p>
