      <p class="para_topic">Parts from I-deas are normally &quot;healed&quot; before being transferred to NX. Healing is not the same as stitching, often associated with using IGES translations. Healing is a process of regenerating smooth surfaces using the mathematical formulation required by the receiving system within the required tolerance (fidelity) of the original surfaces. </p>
      <p class="para_topic">Fidelity checking may optionally be performed to check the accuracy of the geometry after any conversions.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">Most users will be able to let the software automatically handle this process, which it does by default. Advanced users with critical accuracy requirements may prefer to take more control over the process of fidelity checking and healing as described in this section. </p>

                  <p class="para_note_body">There are two I-deas site-specific parameters your administrator must define to use the information below. One parameter controls whether I-deas heals the geometry before transferring the file. The other parameter controls whether I-deas writes out the fidelity checking data, which is a grid of point locations on every surface. </p>

      <p class="para_topic">There are also variables in NX which control whether fidelity checking and healing are performed automatically on import.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">See the Installation section for information on setting these parameters.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Fidelity checking</div>
      <p class="para_division">Fidelity checking will either run automatically on importing into NX, or will be available as an option depending on the settings of variables defined in NX.</p>
      <p class="para_division">To run fidelity checking manually (assuming the fidelity checking data is available):</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Choose  <em>Edit &rarr; Feature &rarr; Parameters</em> (or use the Part  <em>Navigator</em>).
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Double-click on the I-deas feature's name, (or right-click and select  <em>Edit Parameters</em>).
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Click  <em>Perform Fidelity Check</em>.
            </p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <p class="para_division">Fidelity checking will generate a report listing the number of faces and edges exceeding the part tolerance value, along with the point locations and face id numbers where these occur.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Interactive healing</div>
      <p class="para_division">Interactive healing will run automatically, or it can be manually started using these steps:</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Choose  <em>Edit &rarr; Feature &rarr; Parameters</em> (or use the Part  <em>Navigator</em>).
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Double-click on the I-deas feature's name, (or right-click and select  <em>Edit Parameters</em>).
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Click  <em>Heal Geometry</em>.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Click on the triangle to expand the dialog.</p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <p class="para_division">Use  <em>Preferences</em> &rarr;  <em>NX Gateway</em> and select the  <em>I-deas</em> tab to set the following options controlling the healing process.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">Tolerance</p>
      <p class="para_division">The part point coincidence tolerance to be used while performing healing. The default tolerance is 1.0e-5 meters.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Remove Self Intersections</p>
      <p class="para_division">Turn this toggle on to remove any self intersecting surfaces or curves. Default: ON</p>
      <p class="para_division">Remove Discontinuity</p>
      <p class="para_division">Turn this toggle on to remove any tangent discontinuities (sometimes referred to as &quot;C1&quot; or &quot;G1&quot;). Tangent discontinuities are not allowed on curves or surfaces. They will be eliminated by splitting the surface or removing the tangent discontinuity of the edges. Default: ON</p>
      <p class="para_division">Suppress Surface Modifications </p>
      <p class="para_division">Turn this toggle on to disable any surface modifications during the healing process. With this toggle on, other edge modifications will be performed, but not surface modifications.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Preserve Nominal Geometry</p>
      <p class="para_division">Nominal geometry are the curves I-deas keeps at the nominal intersection between curves. Normally these curves are not required by NX. Turn this toggle on to keep these curves.</p>
      <p class="para_division">Remove Small Edges</p>
      <p class="para_division">Remove any edges that exceed the Minimum Small Edge Length parameter entered in the adjacent field. Default: OFF</p>
      <p class="para_division">Repair Tolerance</p>
      <p class="para_division">Use this option to specify a larger tolerance to be used while performing repairs in the geometry. If this option is toggled on, use the adjacent field to enter the allowed tolerance. Default: OFF</p>
      <p class="para_division">Angular Tolerance</p>
      <p class="para_division">The angular tolerance value is the maximum tangency deviation allowed to consider curves tangent-continuous. Default: 0.1 (radians)</p>
      <p class="para_division">Perform Fidelity Checks</p>
      <p class="para_division">Use this option to specify if a fidelity check needs to be performed after the healing process. A report will be generated that indicates the surfaces that exceed the requested tolerance.</p>
