When Line Antialiasing is turned on, lines, curves, and edges are drawn more smoothly. "Aliasing" refers to the jagged, stair-step appearance of lines drawn across the screen, and it occurs because lines are drawn by filling individual pixels on the screen which are arranged in a rectangular grid pattern. "Antialiasing" is an alternate process of filling pixels to give a smoother, truer line appearance. Enabling the Line Antialiasing option affects the appearance of lines only. It does not affect the appearance of the edges of shaded or filled regions.

Line Antialiasing should be turned on only when top-quality images are desired, because it can degrade drawing performance and it can produce unexpected colors during editing operations. You can use the Visual option to turn it off or, equivalently, you can use Preferences → Visualization Performance to turn on Disable Line Antialiasing. The two settings are synchronized, so whenever you modify one, the other is correspondingly changed.

Line Antialiasing is a session attribute, so it applies to views in all parts in the session. The attribute setting is determined as follows:

If you have never modified the attribute, then the setting is initialized to the value specified by the UGII_LINE_ANITALIASING environment variable, if it is set. The variable can be set to TRUE or FALSE.
