UGS should be consulted to perform an initial audit to review I-deas usage and basic processes.

The initial audit will review the I-deas applications you use, the types of modeling features you use, and how the migration process will be phased into your production schedules. Do you need to migrate all your data at once, or just the released projects? Do you need to migrate the complete history of all parts, or do you want to migrate only the part boundary representations first, and migrate part history when the parts need to be modified?

The initial audit will determine the scope of the migration effort and propose a rough outline for the migration road map. It will help you make decisions about what data you will migrate, and how to phase in the transition.

Detailed audit

UGS may also be contracted to do a detailed audit.

A UGS Feature Audit Tool can be used to scan parts and assemblies in an I-deas TDM installation. This tool will analyze and report a summary of all the types of features you use and the frequency of their use. A similar report indicates the complexity of assemblies.

Even if you use features or applications that the migration tools do not yet support, there are other options. If a feature is not supported by the migration tool, the resulting orphan feature surfaces can be used until that feature is rebuilt or repaired in NX.

The detailed audit will also review training options and work flows.

Data clean-up

It's important to check the I-deas TDM metadata before the migration.

In Teamcenter, all part numbers must be unique. I-deas TDM allows the same part number to be reused, as long as the combination of part number and part name are unique within a given library. I-deas also allows parts to have no part number. These kinds of issues need to be fixed before migrating the metadata.

One tool used by I-deas administrators is DMADMIN. This utility can be used to check for errors in the metadata.

Another tool is the I-deas Metadata Integrity Administration (MIADMIN) utility. This tool can scan the TDM installation for naming errors before converting the installation to Teamcenter. It can also help you make these naming changes.

Metadata migration

Migration Wizard is the utility used to migrate the metadata from I-deas TDM to Teamcenter.

Options allow you to migrate the entire TDM or just certain projects using package files. Another option is to specify which part versions to migrate. For example, one possibility is to migrate only the latest versions of parts and released versions.
