      <hr noshade="true"><a name="ndxgenid_roadmap472"></a><p class="para_topic">In bottom-up assembly modeling, assemblies are created from existing component part models.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">Follow this basic procedure to create an assembly from the bottom up.</p>

         <li>
            <p class="para_item">First create the component part models. Within these .prt files, optionally define <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('roadmap/07qt_assemblies_8.html');return(false);">reference sets</a> to define what geometry is actually loaded into the assembly.
            </p>
            <p class="para_item">These .prt files do not need to be opened in your NX <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('roadmap/03topic_5.html');return(false);">session</a>.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Create a new empty .prt container for the assembly. Remember that NX uses the same type of <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('roadmap/03topic_4.html');return(false);">.prt file</a> for assemblies and part geometry.
            </p>
            <p class="para_item">The procedure to <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('roadmap/05qt_parts_12.html');return(false);">create the file</a> will be slightly different depending on whether you are running NX in native mode, or using Teamcenter.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Add the existing .prt files to create assembly components.</p>

                     <li>
                        <p class="para_item">Choose the .prt file from the list of loaded parts, or from the operating system.</p>
                     </li>
                     <li>
                        <p class="para_item">Select the reference set to load. For example, select <b class="uiTerm">Model</b> to load the solid model without datums.
                        </p>
                        <p class="para_item">The <b class="uiTerm">Component Preview</b> window will show the geometry about to be loaded as you select a reference set.
                        </p>
                     </li>
                     <li>
                        <p class="para_item">Select a positioning method to place the component using coordinates, to dynamically <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('roadmap/07qt_assemblies_15.html');return(false);">position</a> it, or to create <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('roadmap/07qt_assemblies_16.html');return(false);">assembly constraints</a>.

                        <p class="para_item">Select the <b class="uiTerm">Layer Options</b> to move the geometry to a new layer, or keep its existing layers.
