This keyword applies only to generating CGM files, and only when text is to be represented by text elements (as opposed to polyline elements).

Unigraphics NX drafting objects often contain special characters to represent symbols that are not part of the standard ASCII character set. In drafting objects, these characters are internally stored as a dollar sign followed by a lower-case alpha character (see the Drafting Help for more information). Beginning with Unigraphics NX version 13.0, all such special characters are stroked in the CGM. Prior to version 13.0, however, these special characters were represented in CGM text elements by non-standard (non-ASCII) values.

The ENCODE_DOLLAR_CHARACTERS keyword retains this historical behavior: special drafting characters are encoded in CGM text elements using non-standard 8-bit values.
