When a dialog is active, you can select the types of objects that are relevant for the operation. Alternatively, many operations also allow you to select the objects to be acted upon prior to entering the operation. This technique is referred to as Object-Action selection, since the objects were selected before invoking the action.

When objects are selected first, the operation determines which of the selected objects it can act upon. For those objects that are not valid for the operation, a related object may be derived from the selected object. For example, you can select a feature, and then invoke the Blank or Edit Object Display operations. These operations will naturally apply to the body to which that feature belongs.

A convenient Object-Action technique is to invoke the operation from the object-specific popup menu. Pressing the right mouse button over an object launches a popup menu with the most common operations for that object. You can launch the popup for one or more objects that you've already selected, or for the pre-highlighted object under the cursor.
