      <p class="para_topic"> UG2MCON converts certain NX files from the format used on one computer system to the format used on another system. The types of NX files that UG2MCON can convert are:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> CL (Center Line)</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> PIXEL</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> MDF(Machine Data File)</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> SBF(Symbol Font File)</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> FAC(Patterns Facet File)</p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <p class="para_topic"> The types of machine formats that UG2MCON can convert to or from are:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> HP, Sun, Apollo(UNIX)  </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> IBM(VM/CMS) [Convert from only, not to]  </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> Ultrix/OSF1/AXP  </p>

      <p class="para_topic"> This help file explains only the steps necessary to run UG2MCON. For more information about file formats on your computer system, refer to the system manuals that came with your computer.</p>

                  <p class="para_note_body"> Beginning with V9.1 and later releases, NX has the capability to automatically convert particular file types between heterogeneous machine operating systems. Refer to the Special Functions section in this appendix for detailed information on Automatic File Conversion Between Machines.</p>

      <div class="title_division"> Basic Steps to Using UG2MCON</div>
      <p class="para_division"> Converting many files at one time is easy using UG2MCON. Use one of the following procedures.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Tape</div>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> Create a tape of the files you want to convert on the source machine. (See your computer system manuals for tape creation and file manipulation.)</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> Move these foreign files from the tape to a directory on the destination machine.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> Run UG2MCON on the directory created in steps 2.</p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <p class="para_division">Because UG2MCON can distinguish between native and foreign NX files, you do not need to isolate the files moved from tape from files that are already in the format of the destination machine.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Network</div>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> Use a file transfer program such as FTP to move valid NX files from the source machine to the destination machine.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> Run UG2MCON on the directory created in steps 1.</p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <div class="title_division"> How to Use UG2MCON</div>
      <p class="para_division"> After you have moved all the files to the destination machine, you are ready to run the conversion program. Use the command on your operating system that executes the conversion program UG2MCON.</p>
      <p class="para_division"> For UNIX use:</p>
      <p class="para_division">  <em>UG2MCON</em></p>
      <p class="para_division"> The conversion program then presents you with a main menu that displays as follows:</p>

         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">FILE TYPES - </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">FILE TEMPLATE - ALL FILES</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">SOURCE MACHINE - </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">TARGET MACHINE - </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">CONVERT FILES </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">EXIT PROGRAM </p>
            <p class="para_item">ENTER RESPONSE - </p>
         </li>
      </ol>
      <p class="para_division"> The menu options perform as described below.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Directory</div>
      <p class="para_division"> This option specifies which directory UG2MCON searches for the foreign files to convert. The default directory is your current working directory. Follow the conventions of your computer's native operating system for the directory specification.</p>
      <div class="title_division">File Types</div>
      <p class="para_division"> This option allows you to select which file types to convert. When you select this option, UG2MCON presents the following submenu:</p>

            <p class="para_item">1. CLFILE </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">2. PIXEL </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">3. MDF </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">4. SBF </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">5. FAC (PATTERNS FACET FILE) </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">97. ADD ALL </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> 98. DELETE ALL</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">99. RETURN </p>
            <p class="para_item">ENTER RESPONSE -</p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <p class="para_division">The submenu options operate as follows: </p>
      <p class="para_division">  <em>Suboptions 1 - 5</em> - These suboptions select which types of NX files UG2MCON converts. Selecting one of the suboptions toggles the file type on or off. If the file type is turned on, then UG2MCON converts all files of that type which match the given template (see File Template below). Otherwise, UG2MCON ignores the file.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">  <em>Suboption 97</em> - This selects all file types.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">  <em>Suboption 98</em> - This deselects all file types.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">  <em>Suboption 99</em> - This returns you to the main menu for UG2MCON.
      </p>
      <div class="title_division">File Template  </div>
      <p class="para_division"> This option allows you to specify the file template of the foreign files. The default template is such that UG2MCON selects all files in the conversion directory (specified under option 1). To specify a different template, follow the conventions for file templates in your computer's native operating system.</p>

                  <p class="para_note_body"> &nbsp;  UG2MCON converts <em> all</em> files in the conversion directory that match the specified file type and template, even if those files are from different source machines. This can result in the erroneous conversion of files and the destruction of data. Therefore, if you are converting files from different source machines, we recommend that you use a separate conversion directory for each source. You will then have to perform a separate conversion operation on each of those directories.
                  </p>
                  <p class="para_note_body"> Do not attempt to convert a file more than once using UG2MCON. There is no separate file header information to indicate the file platform. A second conversion of the file can cause erroneous data and data destruction.</p>
               </div>
            </td>
         </tr>
      </table>
      <div class="title_division">Source Machine</div>
      <p class="para_division"> This option specifies the type of the source machine for the foreign files. The source machine cannot be the same type as the destination machine, and you can specify only one source at a time. The submenu of this option is:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> IBM</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> UNIX</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> ULTRIX/OSF1/AXP</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> RETURN</p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <p class="para_division"> Selecting one of these suboptions immediately returns you to the main UG2MCON menu.</p>
      <div class="title_division"> Target Machine</div>
      <p class="para_division"> This option shows the destination machine for the converted files. UG2MCON automatically sets this option to specify your current computer system. If you want, you can change to another target machine format.</p>
      <div class="title_division"> Convert Files</div>
      <p class="para_division"> When you are satisfied that all conversion parameters are specified properly, select this option to start the conversion process. As UG2MCON begins converting a file, it displays the filename on your terminal. After the conversion is complete, UG2MCON displays a completion message and waits for you to acknowledge by pressing the carriage return.</p>
      <div class="title_division"> Exit Program</div>
      <p class="para_division"> This option terminates the conversion session and returns you to the computer's operating system.</p>
      <p class="para_division"> The following notes apply to using UG2MCON:</p>

            <p class="para_item"> You have to specify the type of the source machine.</p>

                              <p class="para_note_body"> Invalid file format</p>
                              <p class="para_note_body"> End of file on read</p>
                           </li>
                        </ul>
                     </div>

         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> You can make only one conversion at a time, from one machine format to another machine format.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> UG2MCON converts <em> all</em> files in the conversion directory that match the specified file type and template, even if those files are from different source machines. This can result in the erroneous conversion of files and the destruction of data. Therefore, if you are converting files from different source machines, we recommend that you use a separate conversion directory for each source.       </ol>
      <div class="title_division"> Using UG2MCON in Command Line Mode</div>
      <p class="para_division"> UG2MCON allows you to convert files from the command line using the following format:</p>

      <p class="para_division"> The following switch values are available (capitalized letters are required):</p>

      <p class="para_division"> -DEst=DST_Machine(required)</p>
      <p class="para_division"> -INput=Filename </p>
      <p class="para_division">-OUtput=Filename</p>

      <p class="para_division"> The following are descriptions for the UG2MCON command line parameters.</p>
