      <p class="para_topic">In I-deas, Boolean operations with closed and open parts use the same commands, but the outcome is highly dependent on how the material side is set to one of four things on the open surfaces. The material side can be set to either side, both sides, or to none.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">In NX, there are separate commands for Boolean operations with sheet bodies.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">A solid body can be used to cut a sheet using <b class="uiTerm">Subtract</b>, but the Boolean commands <b class="uiTerm">Unite</b>, and <b class="uiTerm">Intersect</b> only work with solid bodies.
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic">Starting with the solid and sheet body shown in the first figure below, the result of cutting the solid body from the sheet using <b class="uiTerm">Subtract</b> is shown in the second figure.

      <p align="center"><img align="bottom" src="graphics/surfaces/sheet_cut.gif"></p><a name="ndxgenid_roadmap442"></a><p class="para_topic">The <b class="uiTerm">Emboss</b> command will emboss the shape of the solid into the sheet body, similar to open part modeling in I-deas.

      <p class="para_topic">The software will indicate which side to keep, similar to setting the material side in I-deas. The figure below shown one of the possible results.</p>

This command will warn you that it does not preserve associativity. In the figure below, one of the solid bodies has been translated to show the split.

      <p class="para_topic">The <b class="uiTerm">Edit</b> &rarr; <b class="uiTerm">Face</b> command offers other options to subdivide and join faces. For information on these options, select this command and press F1.
