      <p class="para_topic">In I-deas, each assembly hierarchy level is stored in a separate .asm file in the library. When you check out the assembly, each subassembly and part is also checked out into your model file by default, unless you use pruning.</p><a name="ndxgenid_roadmap184"></a><p align="center"><img align="bottom" src="graphics/intro/asm-ideas.gif"></p>

      <p class="para_topic">In NX, when you load a .prt file containing an assembly into your session, every required .prt file containing subassemblies or part geometry is loaded by default, unless you change the assembly load options.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">In NX, assemblies work almost the same as in the I-deas library, except that every file is the same .prt file type. An NX assembly component is a link to another .prt file.</p>

                  <p class="para_note_body">An advantage of this structure is that it is easy to change any part into a subassembly. Also, when you build an assembly top-down, you do not need to know if the lowest level component will be a part model or a subassembly.</p>
