The spreadsheet Active Range is a named range in the spreadsheet that defines the area that contains the active block of NX expression data. It includes both the expression names and the corresponding formulas (either values or expressions). The first column or row contains the expression names. Immediately to the right (column-wise) or below (row-wise), the cells contain corresponding expressions or constants. Whenever you elect to update the part, the Active Range definition and, optionally, the cell cursor position determine what data is sent to NX.

To define the Active Range use one of the following methods.

If you extracted the names and expressions using a function in Tools→Extract Expr, then the Modeling Spreadsheet automatically defines the active range. If you do not modify the list (other than modifying expressions), no further action is required, or

If you used an alternate input method, or you modified the extracted lists, you must explicitly set the expression active range as follows:

Select (highlight) the scope of the expression Active Range - names and expressions.

Select Edit→Define Expr Rng.

For example in the Column-wise Data Layout Example, A2..B4 contains the expression names and expressions you need. Highlight A2..B4, then select Edit→Define Expr Rng.

If you want the Active Range to be saved, you must save the spreadsheet with File→Save from the spreadsheet menu.

You can confirm the definition of the active range. The following sections explain how for each spreadsheet application.

Xess

Select Edit→Named Range from the Xess spreadsheet menu. The named range, UG_ACTIVE_RNG, refers to the Active Range. Do not directly define UG_ACTIVE_RNG using the Edit→Named Range, spreadsheet menu option.

Excel

Select Insert→Name→Define from the Excel spreadsheet menu. The name UG_ACTIVE_RNG, refers to the Active Range.

Alternatively, you can select the Down Arrow on the right side of the Name Box. The Name box is below the New, Open, Save icons on the upper left corner of the spreadsheet. If a UG_ACTIVE_RANGE has been set, it will be listed and selecting it will highlight the cells. Do not define UG_ACTIVE_RNG directly using the Insert→Name→Define spreadsheet menu option.

Redefining the Active Range

Suppose you have extracted 200 expression names and formulas on the spreadsheet, and are only interested in 5 of them. You can:

Delete the rest of them using Edit→Delete→Delete Row, or by using Edit→Move operations in the spreadsheet. Then redefine the Active Range to include only those 5 names and their formulas.

You could move the names you are interested in to the beginning of the list and redefine the Active Range to only include the first 5 items.

Both approaches have the same effect on the spreadsheet. The difference is that in the second approach the data for the other expressions is available for future reference.
