      <p class="para_topic">In I-deas, the sketch used for each extrude feature is &ldquo;absorbed&rdquo; into the feature. To use a sketch in more than one feature, you must create a reference curve feature.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">In NX, sketches can be created as a separate step before creating the extrude feature, or as part of the extrude process.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">NX sketches can be either be external or internal to the extrude feature. A sketch that is internal to an extrude feature is absorbed into the feature, similar to a sketch in I-deas. </p>
      <p class="para_topic">External sketches can directly be used to create multiple features without the extra step of creating reference curves. External sketches are also listed as features in the <b class="uiTerm">Part Navigator</b>. 
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic">To hide external sketches, either place them on an invisible layer or hide the sketch feature. You can also hide a sketch by converting it to an internal sketch if it is only used in one feature.</p>
      <p class="para_topic">Create extruded features using the <b class="uiTerm">Extrude</b> button in the <b class="uiTerm">Feature</b> toolbar or the menu <b class="uiTerm">Insert</b> &rarr; <b class="uiTerm">Design Feature</b> &rarr; <b class="uiTerm">Extrude</b>.

This saves the extra step of manually offsetting a sketch. Use this option to extrude open curves into a solid in one step, or to create a lip around the edges of a face.

                  <p class="para_note_body">The setting <b class="uiTerm">Body Type</b> (<b class="uiTerm">Solid</b> or <b class="uiTerm">Sheet</b>) determines whether end caps are created on the extruded feature. Set to <b class="uiTerm">Sheet</b> for open part modeling. Otherwise, leave it set to <b class="uiTerm">Solid</b> to work as you do in I-deas.
