      <p class="para_topic">In I-deas, a part can be open or closed, and can contain multiple volumes.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">In NX, the entire .prt file is called a &ldquo;part.&rdquo; This file can contain any collection of geometry including wireframe, surfaces, and solids. Solid objects are called &ldquo;closed bodies,&rdquo; and open surfaces are called &ldquo;sheet bodies.&rdquo; </p>

      <p class="para_topic">This flexible structure gives you more control over what is kept in each .prt file. For example, one .prt file could contain the solid bodies of both the left hand and right hand versions of a model.</p>

      <ul>
         <li class="condense">The final part model may retain cutting tools that are hidden or placed on invisible layers.</li>
         <li class="condense">Layers may be used to hide or show selected bodies.</li>
         <li class="condense">When used in an assembly, <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('roadmap/07qt_assemblies_8.html');return(false);">Reference Sets</a> are used to specify the geometry that should be included.
         </li>
      </ul>
      <p class="para_topic">In I-deas, a part stored in the library contains the geometry, history and model views, but no display information. </p>
      <p class="para_topic">In NX, some of the information that was stored in the I-deas model file is now stored in the .prt file. The .prt file contains the units of the part and display information for each view. For example, when you save a .prt file in shaded mode, the next time it's opened, it will be displayed in shaded mode.</p>
