      <p class="para_topic">In I-deas, the <b class="uiTerm">Appearance</b> command is used to change part color. The <b class="uiTerm">Display Filter</b> command controls the display of specific part entity types. There are also <b class="uiTerm">Hide</b> and <b class="uiTerm">Show</b> commands to hide individual entities.

      <p class="para_topic">In NX, part color is changed by editing the object display properties. You may hide and show individual objects. Layers may also be used to control visibility of objects.</p><a name="qt_part_display"></a><div class="title_division">Part display properties</div><a name="ndxgenid_roadmap265"></a><p class="para_division">Change the color or transparency of a part model using <b class="uiTerm">Edit</b> &rarr; <b class="uiTerm">Object Display</b>.

      <p class="para_division">Change the default solid body object color using <b class="uiTerm">Preferences</b> &rarr; <b class="uiTerm">Object</b>.

      <div class="title_division">Show and hide by object type</div>
      <p class="para_division">Access the <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('roadmap/02qt_nx_basics_35.html#qt_show_hide');return(false);"><b class="uiTerm">Show and Hide</b></a> command in the <b class="uiTerm">Edit</b> menu or with the shortcut Ctrl+W.
      </p>
      <p class="para_division">In the <b class="uiTerm">Show and Hide</b> dialog box next to each object type, click + or &ndash; to show or hide all of this type. This performs the immediate action of showing and hiding entities. After you hide all objects of a given type, you can then show individual objects. This command does not create a permanent filter like the <b class="uiTerm">Display Filter</b> in I-deas.

      <div class="title_division">Hide individual objects</div>
      <p class="para_division">The <b class="uiTerm">Hide</b> command hides individual objects. This is useful, for example, to hide datum coordinate systems and sketches.

      <p class="para_division">Not all features can be hidden, because they are part of a body. In this case, you would hide the parent body instead.</p>
      <div class="title_division">Hide and show of bodies</div>
      <p class="para_division">When you view the <b class="uiTerm">Part Navigator</b> with <b class="uiTerm">Timestamp Order</b> turned off to show the &ldquo;body mode,&rdquo; a red check mark indicates whether bodies (solid bodies or sheet bodies) are visible.

      <div class="title_division">Layers</div>
      <p class="para_division">As you learn to model parts in NX, you can start by creating everything on layer 1 by default, but you may want to put objects on different layers to control visibility.</p>
      <p class="para_division">The layers concept gives you another method of managing object visibility.</p>
      <p class="para_division">The <b class="uiTerm">Hide</b> and <b class="uiTerm">Show</b> commands also work with layers. When you use the <b class="uiTerm">Show</b> command on an object, the layer it is on will be made visible if retread.
