      <p class="para_topic"> Allows you to import Stereo Lithography (STL) code into NX in one of these formats:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> ASCII text format</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> Compressed ASCII format (i.e., gzip)</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> Binary format</p>
         </li>
      </ul>
      <div class="title_division">Import STL Dialog</div>
      <p class="para_division"> The Import STL dialog, which displays when you select File&rarr;Import&rarr;STL, has the following options:</p>

               <p class="para_td"> Coarse Medium Fine</p>

               <p class="para_td"> Determines the number of edges that will be hidden. Coarse hides the most edges; Fine the least.</p>

               <p class="para_td"> Specifies the size of an STL unit (e.g., selecting Millimeters means that every STL unit is represented as 1 mm within the NX work part).</p>

               <p class="para_td"> Displays a summary when the import is finished. The summary lists the number of topologies created, and the number of facets in each topology.</p>

                  <p class="para_note_body">  Compressed binary format is not supported. If you attempt to import this type of file, you will receive a message that the file you are attempting to import is not an STL file.</p>

      <p class="para_division"> Imported STL code is represented by a faceted model (or models) that displays in the default color for faceted models.</p>
      <p class="para_division"> Multiple solids can be defined within an ASCII file.</p>
      <p class="para_division"> After you OK the Import STL dialog, select the STL file to be imported. The system attempts to identify the type of STL file selected. ASCII file format, binary file format, or a non-STL file. In some rare cases, an STL file's format can be ambiguous. If this happens, identify the file type as ASCII or binary or cancel the operation.</p>
      <div class="title_division">STL File Errors</div>
      <div class="title_division"> File not found</div>
      <p class="para_division"> If the system cannot find the file you selected for importing, the following error message displays:</p>
      <div class="title_division"> This is not a STL file</div>
      <p class="para_division"> The system identifies an attempt to import a non-STL file. This message does not appear for STL files that lack the .stl extension.</p>
      <div class="title_division"> The STL file contains a parsing error at line ___</div>
      <p class="para_division"> If an error occurs during the parsing of the file, and the current model (plus any later models in the file) will not be created:</p>
      <div class="title_division"> The STL file contains invalid or missing facet data</div>
      <p class="para_division"> If the STL file contains an invalid vertex value or is missing facet data. Typically, this error appears if the facet model being created exceeds the 500-meter size limit.</p>
      <p class="para_division"> If a parser failure occurs while defining a later model in a multiple-model ASCII file, the models defined before the parser failure will be created. If this happens, you will receive both an error message and a message that tells you how many models were created.  </p>
