      <hr noshade="true"><a name="ndxgenid_roadmap590"></a><p class="para_topic">Both I-deas and NX can create and use JT files. These files are generally used for two purposes. </p>
      <p class="para_topic">JT files can be used as 3D viewing files in Teamcenter.</p>

      <p class="para_topic">JT files can also be used as an interface between foreign CAD systems, similar to IGES files. For example, I-deas and NX can import JT files from other CAD systems to create assembly components. </p>
      <p class="para_topic">Although JT files could be used to transfer models betweenI-deas and NX, this is usually not recommended, since these two systems are not considered &ldquo;foreign.&rdquo;</p>
      <p class="para_topic">If you need to transfer models fromI-deas to NX before you are ready to migrate the data, the recommended method is to migrate the boundary representation without the history. At a later date, you can remigrate the part when you are ready to transfer the history and maintain the part in NX  instead of I-deas.</p>
