      <p class="para_topic">On UNIX platforms, you can start NX in three ways. All three ways begin at the command line:</p>
      <ul>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> Start NX using the <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('intro_to_nx/uiu_sta_unix_motif_p.html');return(false);">Motif-based</a> startup menu, known as ugmenu
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> Start NX using the <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('intro_to_nx/uiu_sta_unix_nonmotif_p.html');return(false);">Non-Motif</a> or character-based startup menu
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item"> Start NX using the <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('intro_to_nx/uiu_sta_unix_cmd_p.html');return(false);">command line</a>. This allows you to use various optional startup switches.
            </p>
         </li>
      </ul>

                  <p class="para_note_body">Although some of NX' support modules are character-based and can be run outside of the Motif windowing system, NX itself, as well as the NX Motif-based startup menu require Motif to be running on your system.</p>
