      <p class="para_topic">To assign a reference type attribute to an object:</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">In the <b class="uiTerm">Properties</b> dialog box, select the <b class="uiTerm">Feature Attributes</b> tab.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">In the <b class="uiTerm">Type</b> field, select the <b class="uiTerm">Reference</b> type from the list.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">In the <b class="uiTerm">Title</b> field, type a name for the attribute.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Click <b class="uiTerm">Edit Value</b> <img align="bottom" src="graphics/edit_value.gif" border="0">. This opens the <b class="uiTerm">Edit Value</b> dialog box that allows you to specify references using regular expressions.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Specify the format.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Enter any combination of strings, integers, real numbers or existing expressions in the attribute<b class="uiTerm">Value</b> field. 
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Click <b class="uiTerm">Apply</b> or <b class="uiTerm">OK</b>.
            </p>
         </li>
      </ol>
