      </table><br><p class="para_topic">The procedure below creates a new .dpv file with your customizations from the previous release applied to matching defaults in the new release. If you also want to customize defaults that are new to the release (and therefore have no matching defaults in the previous release, you can <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('cust_defaults/04topic_5.html');return(false);">generate a list of these defaults</a>. The list includes defaults that had major changes (such as a change to the default's internal name) in the release, which you may want to examine.
      </p>
      <p class="para_topic">To convert your previous .dpv or your pre-NX 3 .def files into the latest version of NX:</p>
      <ol type="1" start="1">
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Open the <b class="uiTerm">Customer Defaults</b> dialog box by choosing <b class="uiTerm">File</b>&rarr;<b class="uiTerm">Utilities</b>&rarr;<b class="uiTerm">Customer Defaults</b>.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Choose the desired <b class="uiTerm">Defaults Level</b>: <b class="uiTerm">Site</b>, <b class="uiTerm">Group</b>, or <b class="uiTerm">User</b>.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">Open the <b class="uiTerm">Manage Current Settings</b> dialog box by clicking <b class="uiTerm">Manage Current Settings</b> <img align="bottom" src="graphics/defs_current_settings.gif" border="0"> in the <b class="uiTerm">Customer Defaults</b> dialog box.
            </p>
         </li>

            <p class="para_item">Click <b class="uiTerm">Import Defaults</b> <img align="bottom" src="graphics/defs_setting_import.gif" border="0"> in the <b class="uiTerm">Manage Current Settings</b> dialog box.
            </p>
         </li>

            <p class="para_item">In the <b class="uiTerm">Import Customer Defaults</b> dialog box, enter the <b class="uiTerm">File Name</b> of the defaults file that you are converting, and choose <b class="uiTerm">OK</b>. The file extension must be .def or .dpv.
            </p>
            <p class="para_item">The defaults are imported, and the results appear in an Information window. Customized defaults (those that do not match the current default files) appear in the defaults list in the <b class="uiTerm">Manage Current Settings</b> dialog box.
            </p>
         </li>

            <p class="para_item">You can scroll to the bottom of the Information window if you want to see a summary of the results. The summary shows the number of defaults that fall into the following categories:</p>

                                 <p class="para_note_body">The customizations are not saved at this point, which allows you to make modifications before they are saved. They will be saved to a .dpv file when you choose <b class="uiTerm">OK</b> or <b class="uiTerm">Apply</b> in the <b class="uiTerm">Customer Defaults</b> dialog box. If you do not want to save them, you can <b class="uiTerm">Cancel</b> the <b class="uiTerm">Customer Defaults</b> dialog box.

                     <p class="para_td">These customizations could not be imported because their values are lists, or because the value is not valid for the default.</p>
                     <p class="para_td">You can add the list values manually in the <b class="uiTerm">Customer Defaults</b> dialog box. Search the results file for occurrences of &quot;This value was invalid and was not imported&quot; in the results file to locate the settings that are lists. For each rejected list in the results file, &quot;Location&quot; and &quot;Setting&quot; provide the pathname to the default in the <b class="uiTerm">Customer Defaults</b> dialog box. &quot;Value failing to import&quot; is the customized values on your list that failed import; you can now copy and paste these values into the <b class="uiTerm">Customer Defaults</b> dialog box.

            <p class="para_item">You can add a comment to a customized default by selecting it in the <b class="uiTerm">Manage Current Settings</b> dialog box's list, and clicking <b class="uiTerm">Edit Comment</b> <img align="bottom" src="graphics/defs_setting_comment.gif" border="0">.
            </p>
            <p class="para_item">You can delete a comment by choosing <b class="uiTerm">Edit Comment</b> and deleting all of the comment text.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">You can reset one or more defaults to their original values by selecting them from the defaults list and clicking <b class="uiTerm">Delete Setting</b> <img align="bottom" src="graphics/delete.gif" border="0">. This deletes any modifications you made to the default in previous releases.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">When you are finished in the <b class="uiTerm">Manage Current Settings</b> dialog box, choose <b class="uiTerm">OK</b>.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">If you want to keep the defaults file that you imported, you must save it by choosing <b class="uiTerm">OK</b> or <b class="uiTerm">Apply</b> in the <b class="uiTerm">Customer Defaults</b> dialog box.
            </p>
            <p class="para_item">The file is saved to the .dpv file specified by <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('cust_defaults/defs_overview.html');return(false);">the appropriate environment variable for your level</a>.
            </p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">If you had customizations in more than one pre-NX 3 .def file, you must import each one in turn.</p>
         </li>
         <li>
            <p class="para_item">If you want to customize customer defaults that are either new or that have had major changes, use version information to <a class="links" href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="top.openFile('cust_defaults/04topic_5.html');return(false);">locate</a> these defaults. You can then customize the defaults as needed.
            </p>
