So change G0 tolerance in the dialog from 1-e6 to 1e-5 will work for this case.

1471427	The problem you reported for setting At Timestamp of a WAVE Linked body then deleting the timestamp feature results in the WAVE body setting the last feature to At Timestamp with no actual update to the part has been fixed in NX 4.0.3. The design intent was that if the "At Timestamp" feature was deleted that the link would become a normal link and lose its "At Timestamp" characteristics. The update was corrected along with the "At Timestamp" attribute being removed from the link feature. In NX5 the update code was changed to drop the timestamp attribute of the link and to update correctly. Messages are written to the informational window indicating that this has happened to the link because its timestamp feature was deleted. The messages also indicate that if is not desired that the user can either do an undo or edit the indicated feature. The EDU is not presented since its use is now discouraged. A non-modal dialog is also displayed telling the user about this and directing him to the informational window for further details. To maintain a consistent behavior, the same behavior was added to NX4 and NX3.

We have carried out a detailed analysis of the data and found a fix for the blend update failure. This update failure has been fixed and the fix will be available in the NX5 release. 1481864	The problem with the bad toolpath from a face grooving operation has been fix for NX5.0. In the underlying operation of the PR's part file, the "Engage/Retract-> Retract(Tab)->Extend Distance" has a value of 1.0 mm. This extends the pass cutting along the side of the groove tangentially by 1 mm (at the end of the pass), which makes the tool touch the finished part in a region where material is already machined away. Setting the Extend Distance to 0.0 mm resolves the problem.

1509293	The problem you reported for Sketch constraints loses association to an edge which was caused by the Edge Geometry changing from an Ellipse to an Intersection Curve, has been fixed in NX 5.0. In sketch, we only allowed the external reference which are wire-frames to change type. This PR part has an external reference that is an edge. In NX5, we started handling external edges changing type as well. The problem is fixed in NX 5.0 for all parts created in that version or higher. For existing parts, the user needs to delete the constraint and re-apply it. For this part, the user needs to delete the point on curve constraint between the line and the edge and re-apply it. After recreating the constraint (in NX5), the sketch will update right for the expression edit.
1509586	This PR reported that "Replace Face -> Simplify Surface" fails in NX4 reporting: Failed to update model geometry. Case not supported. If the input data is valid please report this problem. The reason that the message is raised is because none of the selected surfaces were being simplified using the Simplify Surface operation. From NX4 onwards this result is treated as an error and no feature is created. This problem has been fixed by making the error message more informative. Since changes to messages cannot be implemented in a released version, the correction has been integrated into Unigraphics NX5.0.

New code has been submitted to NX5 to allow the distance between exploded components to be determined, which will be tested and verified and if no problems are found then it will be available in NX5.0.

Here is backgound on the nature of the problem and a description of how it has been fixed. The Offset feature is not expected to be marked as out of date per the design in NX3. A feature is marked as out dated only if an ERROR is registered during update. Offset face features created in NX3 and earlier only register a WARNING as opposed to an ERROR if the input faces are all gone. However features created in NX4 & later will report an ERROR and the feature will be marked as out of date in the Part Navigator. Features created in versions earlier than NX4, when updated in NX4 will continue to show an warning and hence will not be marked as out of date in the Part Navigator. In NX5 onwards, an alert is registered with the feature whenever a WARNING is encountered during update and this will be displayed in the Part Navigator in the Alerts column and also with an yellow exclamation icon.

This option is not available for rigid target algorithm (TYPE = 2). GAPVAL Specifies a constant gap distance between the source region (contactor) and the target region when INIPENE = 3. Since this is where the syslog is written, the user must have the ability to write to this directory, else the NX session cannot be run at all. Cleanup of this directory including getting rid of old syslogs and other temporary files written here is at the discretion of the user. The workaround for this problem in NX3 is to either build the symbols in an NX2 session or to do the symbol capture there and copy the icon files to the desired symbol library directory.

Our solver team has confirmed that there is no solution for the edit made by the user. For this particular edit, the only possible solution would cause one of the circles in the sketch to flip its chirality. Starting NX4, we warn the users that such a flip is going to happen. The user can UNDO the edit and try a new one or let the sketch solve with the flip and later correct the model. But another bug in the system prevented the sketch from solving even after the warning. We have fixed that in NX5. This fix is risky to be back ported to NX4 (or NX3). Even with the fix, the user will have to take the following corrective measure to fix the sketch: - Remove tangency between Arc16 and Spline5 - Alternate Solution -> Arc16, Horizontal dimension - Recreate tangency -> pick top of Arc16, pick Spline5 between endpoints of Arc16 In NX4, the user can do the similar fixup to fix the sketch from a conflicting state to a good state. Since in either case, the user needs to do manual fixup, there isn't much gain from backporting the fix.

Instead, first create the parent feature and the chamfer and add them both to a group feature. You can then create as many instances to the group feature as needed. See Group Feature and Instance for details. " We can find the instance edge if both of the adjacent faces of an instance edge are from the instance features of the master edge or if one of the adjacent face is from the instance and the other face is the same as that of the master edge. In this case when taper applied, the non instance adjacent face is split causing the failure to find the edge. In general, there are ambiguities when none instance adjacent face is not the same. So we do not want blindly guessing because if we guessed wrong, user cannot take it away, but if we do not guess, user can still select it to chamfer if they really need to. However, we are encouraging user to avoid using these options in features. What user can do it to create the parent feature and the chamfer first and then put the parent feature and the chamfer in a group. Then create the instance to instance the group feature. Instancing group feature has a new architecture and it is much more robust.

This PR requested that the fix applied to NX5 is backported to the next available release of NX4. Unfortunately it is not possible to port the fix for this PR from NX5 to NX4 because it needs to be version protected. There were some enhancements made to Stop at Intersection in NX4 which caused this regression in the first place. These are version protected too. The problem reported in this PR was first raised by PR 2071458 and has been fixed in NX5.0. To verify the fix, you will have to recreate feature Extrude(9) in or after NX5.0.
2072899	The problem reported by this PR that Face Blend(147) fails to update with "Unable to create Blend." error is fixed in NX5. In NX5, the following result occurs: v18_mtr_bs_ireko_r.prt: Only face blend (358) failed to update. Everything else passed. v18_mtr_bs_n100f_r.prt: Updates cleanly without any failure. Thus in Nx5, we have fixed all the face blend failures except for face blend (358). However if you edit face blend (358) you will see that it has one disconnected face in the first face set. Deselect this face and add the correct face where the blend needs to be. This will make face blend (358) pass. In other words failure of face blend (358) in Nx5 is justified. It is probably caused by some labeling change in Nx since the features were created long ago in V18.

There are several issues addressed or related to this PR that have been fixed in NX5 phase 23. There is also a source code fix available for compilation into a maintenance patch for NX3. 1) One problem has to do with flipping of the principal axes for mass properties. This effect shows up in NX3, but appears to have been solved in NX4 and NX5. This mostly seems to be an issue of math accuracy and how the solution arrives with the vectors on a symmetric part. The fix available for NX3 does not address this issue. 2) The other problem is with the CSYS that is created as an output from measurement. When the work CSYS is not located at the absolute CSYS, then the measurement output for the centroid and principal axes are not properly located and oriented. This has been addressed with the fixes. 3) In NX5 there is a CSYS graphical feedback drawn during measurement that also has the same problems with location and orientation as #2) above.

Note that this does not address the underlying problem that led to the scratch file being left open. It simply makes sure that any such error does not cause the scratch file to remain open in a similar sequence of steps. The problem as written up could not be reproduced by development. The system logfile provided shows two errors that occur before the temporary file is left open - neither of these are addressed by this fix. To confirm the fix correctly closes the temporary file after an unrelated error, an error was manually forced through a similar line of processing. It may be possible to work around the specific problem described here by turning off part and model view previews. However, without a reproducible case, the workaround cannot be confirmed by development.

The complexity of the NX5 fixes makes rolling the fix back to NX4 risky, and we recommend our NX4 users not to use COPY VIEW functionality to copy a sketch in Drafting. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

In some versions the point can be selected but an internal error results. The Snap Point options are available for all sketch projections starting in NX 5. This limitation is intentional for NX 4. Prior to NX 4, there was no snap point available in Sketch Project. You could only project existing points. In NX4, we added the Snap Point behavior for all projections, but unfortunately it doesn't work for non-associative projections - you will get an internal error as the coordinator notes. As a result, we have blocked it intentionally in NX 404 and NX 4033 MP2. In short, we can't support non-associative snap point in the NX 4 world. For NX 4.0.X, there are many work around options available. If you want non-associative snap point projection within the work part, you can select the snap points associatively and then turn off the Associative toggle right before pressing OK. Or you can just create new sketch points and use a Coincident constraint to drive the point to the right location (leave the Project command out of it). Then you can optionally delete the constraint. If you want non-associative snap point projection from assembly geometry, it is a bit harder. Probably the easiest work around is to create a new sketch line that terminates at the desired snap point location (Create Inferred Constraints OFF and Reference Outside Work Part ON). Then you can create a point at the end of that line before deleting the line. Or you could project the entire curve or edge and then create a point based off the projected geometry.

If the user changes the active subcase then the Loads correctly return to their awake state and display properly. If the part is then saved, the part will reopen with the loads displayed correctly. In NX5, the loads are displayed properly upon part load with the given part. So the problem is fixed in NX5 and there is an easy WA in NX4 and when the part is re-saved, the problem does not reoccur.

Now the surface finish symbol's leader (ONLY leader) will remain its original color, font and width as before editing. The leader will also honor the global annotation preference for its color, font and width during creation. Please notice that this fix doesn't address the surface finish symbol itself's color, font and width (just its leader). That part will take much more effort to work on. Since the leader doesn't even have a customer default to control, I guess that is what user especially cared about.

The whole area of positioning is being rewritten for NX5, with new interaction for both constraints and the animation of simple mechanisms. It is hard to determine the maximum number of pixels that a raster can have as it depends on the computer that the customer is running on. If we had to give a number we would say that a raster image that expands to more than 4,000,000 pixels (2000 pixels x 2000 pixels) is large and may cause a performance slowdown and/or not display as in the case of PR 5241571. We would strongly recommend that the customer creates raster images that are not as dense in pixels. The purpose of raster images on drawing sheets is to place small images on the drawing. NX does NOT scale down the image pixels when displaying which causes us to run out of memory if we have images with a large number of pixels. The problem with PR 5241571 is that the image has over 123,884,376 pixels and NX runs out of memory trying to display the image.

The information is included here so that you can see the explanation for the value of "2" that you received when using this function previously. section_surface.polynomial_status = 0; Conic - since rational B-spline curves can represent conic curves exactly, this option produces a true, exact conic shape with no reversals in curvature. It accepts rho values between 0.0001 and 0.9999. Parameterization may be highly nonuniform. The Conic option does not work for fillet-cubic, ends-slopes-rho, and ends-slopes-cubic section features. If you choose Conic when creating one of these section types, the system ignores your choice and uses Cubic instead. section_surface.polynomial_status = 1; Cubic - these curves have roughly the same shape as their rational counterparts (used in the Conic option) but produce a surface with a better parameterization. This option distributes the flow lines along the entire curve, but does not produce exact conic shapes. For example, rho values greater than 0.75 create section curves which are not shaped like a conic. For this reason, the maximum rho allowed when creating polynomial cubic sections is 0.75. section_surface.polynomial_status = 2; Quintic - the surfaces are degree 5, and are C2 (curvature continuous) between patches.

What we did do was this... 1) Create a Swept surface to fill in the missing corner of the sheet metal. 2) Sew the sheet metal and the corner sheet. This must have corrected some of the problems, because I could then create a rough offset sheet (not needed). 3) Specify a Closed Start Orientation point and toggle on the Align Start Orientation. The point was at X = 288.679910366 Y = -89.291530944 Z = 757.508404675

5360316	You reported an issue where a TIFF image cannot be inserted into a file. The problem is that the image has a very large number of pixels and NX runs out of memory trying to display the Raster image. The purpose of a drafting Raster image is to put small images on a drawing. This function was not designed to optimize the pixels displayed. NX 5 will try to reduce the resolution of the Raster image if it runs out of memory displaying it. If NX 5 is not able to display a lower resolution of the raster image, it will simply display the borders of the raster. NX 5 will also notify the user during creation if the image is large and has the potential of running out of memory during display. When working with a release that is prior to NX 5, the workaround for this problem is to reduce the number of pixels that define the TIFF image.

We reordered the trim and extend feature to before the rough offset features. Then created the Lower Binder. The issue is due to the overlapping of the curve to the sheet metal and in some regions is inside and in some it is outside due to tolerances, etc... We also toggled on the Align Start Orientation toggle.

This double view dependent erasure is the cause of the problem whereby a detail view cannot be created from the section view derived from the erased section line. To fix up the drawing in NX3 and NX4, do the following: 1) move the parent view back to the original sheet 2) remove all view dependent edits from the original sheet 3) set the section line display to No Display 4) move the parent view back to SHT2 This should clean up the double erasure of the section line and allow a detail view to be created from the section view. The recommended practice is to set a section line to No Display rather than view dependently erasing it.

It is not recommended to create a modeling sketch to represent a drawing template if showing such a template in Drafting is the purpose. Instead, our customers might want to consider using the existing Drawing Template capability (which is a Drafting function) to generate a predefined template. The above fix has been submitted to NX 5.0. Note that there is no change to the behavior of part cleanup. The part cleanup capability will still attempt to remove the wrong situation where a modeling sketch contains view dependency on drawing or drafting member view.

There was a flaw in the law extension such that if it references a dumb curve in the base profile and if a curve is deleted, law extension updated successfully without raising error. This problem was limited to dumb curves referenced in the base profile. Thus in this case, law extension feature survived even though there is nothing in the section. User must have ended up deleting input curve at some point. This is fixed in NX5 under algorithm version where NX5 law extension will fail to update immediately. The fix holds true only for law extension features which are created in NX5. All the older features will not get this fix. In this particular case, part file was saved with Law Extension(329) such that the section in the feature has no input curve. In a sense it is a corrupt feature. Law Extension should have either failed to update or should have got deleted when user got rid of input curve to the section. With my fix, this situation will never arise as law extension will complain immediately as a feature will fail.

One issue is the error that is reported in the syslog - this has been fixed in NX5.0. The second issue is the value of the mass when doing an edit of the measurement on promoted bodies. When doing the edit in the assembly part it is not able to find a mapping back to the promoted bodies because the measurement was not created in this context. As a result it only finds one body and the mass is 7. If you then select the other 2 bodies so that it can find all 3 of them again it will give you a mass of 410. This behavior is true for any measurement that is created in one context in an assembly and then modified in another context.
